More honestly, unless you know something we don't, is anyone laughing after your S55 intake valves are all choked up in 20K miles.
But, if you do know something, then share it instead of producing that hacking cough of sarcasm, like a choked intake valve does.

Why don't they? What's BMW doing differently from other engine designer? Please share the reasons.

Not required. PCV system on the S55 has been greatly improved over past generations.
You may need to do a walnut blast if your air to water intercooler leaks into the intake tract though lol... if it’s not one thing, it’s another on these cars. |

I have a nut allergy - is there a walnut-free method to clean the valves?

Interesting, I would imagine having to take off the head to clean it. If the intake valves look that bad, then the top of the pistons will have carbon deposits as well.
I personally won't do this until I run into performance issues like detonation/pinging. The newtis workshop manual has references to walnut blasting, but only as a hint. https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...ine/1VncxtfASg This place says 80k for the service. https://www.bandbautohaus.com/blog/2...alnut-blasting |

That sounds logical but are there any good data or research done to say this method will solve the problem: it certainly sounds easier and more fun, too.

Eat where you poop
It's interesting why partially combusted gas/oil/air mixture is vented thru the PCV and fed back into the intake valve. Why not fed into the exhaust? All in the name of saving gas and emission ctrl?
This is the same design issue as the M16 assault rifle direct impingement design where they fondly call it: eating where you poop.

Walnut blasting is not really necessary as the s55 engines are not Volkswagen/Audi motors and even they did not really need catch cans unless the hp was increased 120%. |

Can you elaborate a little more, what you said is pretty vague.

No, their mentality was actually that they have EPA standards to meet. If you're worried, get an Oil catch can and catch all the crap getting recirculated into the charge pipe / intercooler / intakes. Then check in 50k if you need walnut blasting, which I heavily doubt especially with an OCC. There have been people that opened up their S55 and valves are essentially clean at high mileage, however, blow by still occurs. The S55 just doesn't seem that prone to buildup compared to N54 / VAG DI cars, but as with all turbo / DI cars, blow-by is never a good thing, whether minuscule or not.
