Traction control keeps kicking in
I put on brand new rear tires (MPS4S 285/35/r19) on stock 437M wheels last month and ever since then even on the slightest corners the DTC light keeps flashing. Tires are inflated to 33psi all around and running 265/35/R19 MPS4S in the front. Any ideas as to what is causing this? This is on a F83 btw.

I was running 295/35 MPSS in the rear before this and before that the stock contis 275/35 with no issues. Temp has been over 10 degrees Celsius every time I drive. I have put about 1000km on these new tires thus far. I am running Alex@Alpine stage 2 and MDM does seem to work better but that still doesn't answer why DTC keeps activating with all nannies on.

I would be suspicious of any changes to the geometry of the car, typically edc and by virtue the dsc go all out of wack as you describe when you change the alignment or the change of tires causes the dampeners to behave much differently than initially setup but this usually comes along with springs or when you run front and rears with different ratios or out of spec, say something like a 250 and 290 combo.
You could also very well be driving the car a bit too agressively, I had a stage 2 and goddamn the TC would always kick in but it still doesn't explain how it's constantly flickering. Go to an alignment shop near you and have them check that stuff out. |

same issue. although im not sure why you're suddenly having traction problems after going to the 4S tire.
my solution: just default to euro MDM mode for my M1 setting.

I'm actually having the same problem....Traction control is way too proactive. I'm also on the PS4S tires. It's not my driving, its not because it's 400hp because lets be real, its only 400hp....its not 600-700 where I can expect it. I've had other 400-500hp cars with less tire than the M3 and they never caused Tcs to be so active.

I'll change my fronts to new tires as well maybe it's the tread depth difference between front and rear since my fronts are nearly shot.

He said it was in just over 10 degree celcius weather, those tires are probably stiff as rocks and downright bad, they'll understeer

No, street tires are not like slicks. Very low tread depth means lower traction. This is why people replace tires when the tread becomes too low because traction suffers and it becomes more dangerous to drive.

Nope, quite the contrary. Bald tires mean that the compound has worn out and heat cycled out. Tires grip the most just after they've been broken in.

It could be tire circumference is not stock and it doesn't match TC programming from factory.
I used to run 275 front and 305 rears 30 profile (19's) and I swear since I changed to stock tire sizes (265/285/20) on 666m wheels it just hooks so much more now. Could be the new tires but I'm slot narrower in the rear now too. |

You need to drive them at least 800 miles to wear off the top layer. There's a break-in period most shops don't mention. MDM should help get you there faster.
