Good Street/Track Brake Pads??
I have a few HPDE days that I plan to participate in during the next several months. My car currently has approx. 8,000 miles and I was thinking it may be best to install new brake pads for the season. What are some good option for pads that can be used on the street as well as HPDE? I ave the standard brakes not ceramics. Curious as to the cost as well.
Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Adam |

Checkout the Stoptech Street Performance pads. Ran them in my RS4 for a few years, used the pads on the street and 3 hpde events a year. I'll be running these on the M3 later this season

There aren't really pads that can do both. You'll have to compromise either way.
Track pads are noisy, dusty and wear rotors faster when used on the street. Street pads will offer significantly less fade resistance, will wear pretty fast at the track and will likely smear un-even deposits on the rotors (which results in brake shudder). That being said, I used my Pagid RS29 pads on the street between events last summer and they were quite bearable. They did not squeal too much, just an occasional peep here and there. But they do slap quite a bit in forward-reverse transitions.

Im running Race Technologies RE10 pads on daily basis, so far so good. But they are very expensive, the only drawback I have found for now.

I'd recommend swapping between Ferodo DS1.11 and Ferodo DS2500. They're both made of similar materials, so you don't have to worry about vibrations, judder, and mixing pad material layers. You can see more details in this thread. Most of our BBK customers go this route, and continue to come back to us for spares. It's a great combo that works well.
Also, you can read more about a "do everything" brake pad in my article on How to Choose the Best Street and Track Brake Pads. Thanks. |

The Pagid pads are made to fit loosely inside the calipers to ensure they do not seize in place due to thermal expansion when exposed to the high temperatures seen with track use.

The Pagid RSL29 are still quite abrasive when cold and have a strong initial bite and can be a little grabby. I actually even prefer the feeling of the cold pagid over the stock pads on the street. However, when cold and wet, they need quite a bit more pressure to respond, which can leave an unexpecting driver quite surprised (much like the CCB).

The RSL29 can go without bedding, however it is always better to do so. After a couple of weeks of street driving, it can be good to re-bed the brakes as most of the transfer layer will have worn off. Usually, I will do 8 to 10 back to back hard baking from progressively higher speeds on the highway on the way to the track and then just let the brakes cool down by driving at constant speed. That usually does it for me.

Race Technologies makes GREAT pads, the TS20 is an even better compromise for daily driving + several track events per year. TS is short for Track / Street and RE is short for Racing Endurance. RE10 is designed to hold up under long track sessions so it's a slightly aggressive pad to be ideal for street use but you can certainly use them on the street.

I’ve been running the Endless MX72 with goodridge SS lines.
Had it on since October last year. Has not squeeked at all. Took it to one HPDE this year and performed terrific. Will hopefully do another later this summer. |
