Guy loses all oil in front of me on the highway

I was driving in France and this happened ...

Aftermath

I don't know what happend to the guy... I initially thought he hit something on the road, but it just seems that he somehow managed to lose the oil pan.

I'm honestly quite lucky to have been able to avoid an accident.

In retrospective, one thing that could have been done better was not to brake as heavily. I had to brake because once the guy's engine lost the oil, he also hit the brakes ... but me braking actually caused the car to turn towards the guardrail once I hit the oil patch.

Anyway, all's well that ends well

Yowza. That could've gone very badly. Good to hear you and the car are ok. The oil pan emptied very quickly so he probably lost bolts from at least one end, causing it to droop down on that side, perhaps aided by the wind rushing past it.

That's James Bond-esque trying to spin the guys out in pursuit. Glad you're ok.

Yep. If it was a pushrod car. Only other time I have seen that was in 1968 when a Camaro I was sparring with threw a rod through the oil pan. Similar results. Only, there was a bright spark. If it was a more modern engine, I do not have a clue, but I doubt the oil pan just came loose all of the sudden. Pretty wild......was it a Puegot?

I washed it immediately after, then again, I have her a thorough wash when I got home.

It seems that everything is OK with the paint! Yay
