You started it in post #219 . Seems to me like the "code word" to end the quotation has been deleted in that post which screwed things up from then on.

Even here in relatively more north NorCal, the season has started.

Maynard, I totally get why you had vids from drift school in your m4.

I did an open test day at sonoma to get coaching, and coach was initiating a 4wheel slide on most corner entries, so the car was pointed in the right direction on exit sooner, and could pick up the throttle sooner.

Eye opening for me to be a passenger in my car, with coach passing someone in t6 while in a 4 wheel drift.

"If you are not sliding your car every single corner, you are not going fast enough."
- what the local great said, when I told him how scary it is to see car doing the slide (or) 4 wheel drift at high speed corners. I asked him "is it not scary to you?" he said "it's scary"

Fast entry speed+late braking will inevitably induce slide and the requirement is to not overslide so that it requires recovery (or crash lol) and slow down the car.

Seriously. I miss the point and shoot power of my f80 on days when I’m scrapping for that 1-2mph more exit speed and not finding it.

(I know the same idea of max exit speed applies regardless of the car... Miata is just so brutal in letting you know you didn’t do it right! )

Hey guys, what's the best way to clean off all those little globs of tire rubber from the track?

Mother's R3 race rubber remover works awesome

Yeah guys, I think when we are starting out we get the "slow in / fast out" speech a bunch of times and take it too literally. As you get to doing this for awhile you realize it needs to be "fast in / fast out" lol!

I run a bunch of tight tracks here in the Phoenix area, so its easier to commit to just hucking the car into a corner with a bunch of tire sidewall scrub and rotation. It's a whole other thing to have the balls to do that on high speed stuff.

Note of caution: the mother’s R3 dripped on the headlight of my wife’s f30 335 and the part of the light it dripped on had some cracking start to develop. I didn’t use it on my f80 after I saw that.

JMG, for the wheels, I use brake cleaner and for the paint wd40 to get ride of rubber marks

Exactly. In my Miata sliding is very hard to 'control' so that i went off track once every day till 2018. When it begins to slide I just have to focus on not screwing it like catching a baby thrown in the air. If I try to maintain any fancy sideway it fails on me. On the other hands, yes, in M4 it's soooo forgiving. Hoping my inputs are now more refined enough and I can do it better this year.

For those in northern part of country who are bored like me, here's a video from my last track day in August. I was experimenting limits with track out throttle, you can see how forgivingly NT-01s behave when it loses traction.

Bonus: chasing GT3 and Z06; staying in someone else's mirror is fun while having someone in the mirror is not.

Yeah, Mother's R3 melts plastics a bit, including clear bra. After I used it the first time I noticed a "stained" section of my clear bra where I had it. It also makes the clear bra bit tacky after using on it. My detailer gave me a spray (not sure what's in it, but I know isopropyl is in there) to use after/over the area I use R3 and that's kept any stains or damage from happening.

How about tire marks on the carbon fiber roof?
I’ve tried Mother’s 3R but is there something better.

I've tried Mother's as well, but didn't like it since it seemed overly strong and effected the clear bra. A few of the Porsche guys I've seen around the paddock use the "Tuff Stuff" with success. I will probably give that a try this year.

In my experience regular old finishing/light scratch polish works just fine.

This weekend I learned that Launch Control doesn't like it if the turn is too close to the start line. I used launch control at a local auto-X that had a short starting run and an immediate 90 degree left hander. I decided to see if I can hit the turn faster and Launch Control cut the power mid corner despite me scrubbing the brakes. I lost 2 seconds! I guess it's safety feature if the car senses such an extreme shift of weight and rear end traction loss. The previous run with Launch Control worked fine, but I think I hit the brakes with a little more gusto and took "control" away from LC enough for it to allow me to slide without cutting power. Lesson learned.

Anyone ever try this? Looks like it's pretty easy on the paint and on your patience! Skip to 7:39 for the non-clearbra method if the link doesn't queue it up:

For clearbras don't use the heat gun.

again, meguiar's scratchX and a wet microfiber towel. certainly super easy and safe on clear bra. If you are real OCD about micro-scratches/swirl marks maybe scratchX might not be enough for surface without clear bra and method like this could suit better...

edit: sorry commented without watching it. these are pretty easily removed with scratchX, without using heat. but seems like an idea to use heat if that doesn't work well
