Read Fault Codes without special tools?
Is there a special menu or diagnostic screen you can go to in your car to see fault code history, without any special OBDII tools or readers? Or is the only option to have a plug in tool?
Would the reader tools at an Advanced Auto Parts also give historical faults, or only active faults? I know they'll usually let you borrow them for free. I just got the Chassis Malfunction error this morning, but I know it could be a number of things. The fault cleared when I turned my car on/off, but I'd like to see what caused it without having to go all the way to the dealer or buying a special reader. |

Something like this?:
https://www.amazon.com/Interface-Cab.../dp/B00BFRW6FO Does ISTA cost anything? I know there is software out there...but my original question was that if there are any menus available via the dash or iDrive screen to see without a laptop or other device? |

I bought Bimmerlink. It was like 32 bucks and uses the same OBDII reader as Bimmercode. Pretty easy to use. Had to buy it in a pinch when I got a CEL while driving lol (charge pipes came off).
