A list of forthcoming miniatures from BMW AG has been released in Germany, amongst the M6's and the Gran Coupe they list the BMW F34 3er Gran Turismo and BMW F32 4er Coupe.
We have a saying in Germany and that is get over it!

Guys, I don't think the naming convention is the biggest problem of current/future M cars. So relax. If you like the car, then buy it. M3 badges are very cheap at ebay. Replace at home, after delivery.

All mighty BMW marketing, we are so sorry, please forgive our transgressions. Just tell us what we should like and how we should like it and we will.

Some people like it, some people accept it and others freak out over it and start bitching\whining. Like Scott said, get over it. If you don't like it, don't buy it - Keep it simple

looking forward to more pics and details of this car. i still have my money on the fact that BMW will NOT name the coupe as an "M4" these same rumors were floating around back in 2007 before the E90/92 M3 was released.

That analogy is really quite poor. The M3 and M3 will be more or less the same as the E90 and E92 M3's are today. That level of similarity is absolutely not present in a G35 and any Skyline.

Doesn't look much smaller than the M5 beside it in one of the pictures...
Why do ALL mfg's "grow" ALL of their cars? I just don't get it...

I bet you BMW will loose a lot of sale on the M4 unless they like the 4 door. It is stupid anyway that they changes the name.

swamp, the G35/G37 actually were/are sold as Skylines in Japan. Indeed, the G37 as sold in the US is actually just a rebadged V35 Skyline. A quick Google search will show plenty of details about this if you are curious. This is exactly analogous to Toyota selling the Altezza as a (last generation) Lexus IS300 in the US. Other similar examples exist within Nissan/Infiniti and Toyota/Lexus model lineups. These companies built their luxury brands in the US (and elsewhere) largely on JDM models originally sold under the non-luxury parent brand.
What I am getting at here is that neither rebadge job will really be particularly more or less legitimate than the other. The Infiniti one "works" because of the regional marketing differences. The BMW one "works" for historic reasons. I put "works" in quotes because it is a matter of individual opinion whether rebadging like this is acceptable or not. I don't wish to comment or take sides on that at this juncture, not least because I don't want to pull the discussion off topic. |

To the OPP,
I spoke to BMW UK's Product Manager a few weeks ago and the engine configuration had not been released. Have you got any proof to back up your claim or is it just an educated guess? Additionally I hope you are wrong on the steering being electric. BMW have never really understood how to make the hydraulic system have great feel like Lotus for example. And having tried the new electric steering on X3 and F28 it provides absolutely zero feel. The new M5 still uses hydraulic btw. What is clear and has been for a number of years is that BMW M need to focus on removing the weight for improving driving dynamics, performance and lowering CO2 and not follow AMG down the ridiculous road of massive weight, huge power and a multitude of electronics to control it. It seems that BMW M is finally learning. If it achieves a good weight reduction, coupled with good steering feel and real engine noise, it will be a winner. The new M5 has failed miserably on engine noise and sounds awful compared to the previous V10. Playing artificial sound through the speakers should not be entertained and goes against 'function over form' which used to be an M value. |
