My Final Stage Resistor failed. Been laying low while my employer adjusts to the Virus with my car sitting in an semi air conditioned garage on a battery tender, went for a drive and no fan, no flow, nothing. Max AC, still nothing. I thought it was because the car was very cool from the garage and all of a sudden it was out in 85 degree weather, but still no AC.
Dealership is pretty slow so I pulled in and a few hours later I get a call. They tried some re programming, but that didn't do it. Part ordered and should be ready Thursday. Good news is new charge pipes and intakes really makes the car rip. |

wow. have not heard of an FSR issue on more modern bimmers. They were mentioned every single day on the e38/e39 forums. something else to keep our eyes out for!

Agreed. Even more so when I was on e46Fanatics with my 330ci. I have a preferred BMW tech I always request and use, I'll grill him tomorrow when it's finished and post here with a full update.

Update.
Tech said the Final Stage Resistor failed. He said it was fairly rare and usually occurred on early 15' models (I'm a 4/16 build date) as well as some of the other F platforms. The procedure called for a software update raising the Evap temp limit, (usual cure to cure a freezing up system) and that failed. Next step was a new resistor along with a new blower motor. Covered under extended CPO, $900.00 saved. I did look up the resistor on FCP Euro that listed around $130.00 or so and I believe the blower motor was $350 I believe. Lastly, a FSR diy on a e46 was a real PITA but, the tech said everything on the F series is a fairly straight shot through the glove box only. |
