And you can turn off the display completely if you want. At night this is a helpful option.

I agree. I sat in a 435 at the deals yesterday, as well as an M6. It really didn't feel like an appendage protruding up in my way. It actually makes referencing easier than my e92s in dash/hump design.

If you pay close attention, the "farts" seem to be coming more at lift-off rather than on shifts. Probably a consequence of the "anti-lag" tech. You will most likely have an F8X that is as flatulent in 6MT form .

Could very well be true.

And read reviews of the A45 AMG that "farts" on shifts, the ones I have read likes it and refers to it as "pops and crackles" on shifts. In real life the F10 M5 sounds more like pops and crackles, but on Youtube it sounds more like farts...

Ever been to a Formula 1 race?

Apart from that AWESOME engine screaming, the most impressive sound part was the "cracking and popping" during shifting. In Monaco, hearing the engine scream, accentuated by gunshot pops on each shift was epic

Not that we are close to that on the S55 or S63, but as RPiM5 (on the M5 parts of this Board) can attest to, with a open exhaust the "farts" sound more like small explosions

Agree, but my point is, and you can see clearly in the pictures, with the carbonbrake setup for M3/M4 they use the big golden calliper like with M5. If you we re to choose for steelbrake setup, you get blue M-performance calliper. Smaller different shaped calliper.
If we take a look at the example of the M5/M6, you get the same big calliper for either steel or carbonbrake setup. Same shape, different color...

And my point is, that doesn't save any weight. Which is in turn BMW's point.

Sure, the weightsavings probably was crucial. Personnaly i find it a little more exclusive to see the big calliper. Golden or blue colored...
I m sure the car has the high performance brakes one expects to find on such a car and it will stop just fine.
Carbon or steel setup.

+1, thought it would bother me but I never even notice it in my 435 when driving for the past two months

Yea I really don't understand what BMW was trying to do with that front bumper, just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the car's nice lines all around.

To me, that bumper looks as though it was broken or damaged in an accident and needs to be repaired.

Clearly it must be a function over form decision.

I just hope the next generation M3/M4 doesn't have an elevated fixed trunk wind wing!

Ha, was trying to say something like the below image, I hope M3/M4 isn't moving in that direction, but the new bumper, imho, is starting to look a little ricey .

the car sounds like a shit taking a shit. I honestly think BMW did this on purpose, as well as leave out the CF splitter, rear diffuser, LED tails, etc... to sell separately as M performance parts. F'ing bastards.

New to the forum - came looking for the latest info. I'll apologize in advance for the rant.

Overall I'm disappointed and underwhelmed. Background on my perspective - In 21 years I've owned a dozen or more BMWs new, classic, ///m you name it (usually several at once). I'm probably also responsible for getting a dozen people close to into BMWs after driving/riding in mine (street and track).

These cars (and M cars in particular) used to be special, not about least common denominator marketing, which the product manager from UK in the intro video expressed. Being a product manager myself, I get it. Margins and volumes are king. Success is about knowing your customer and building the right end product for them.

It's just disappointing that BMW M cars getting morphed in this transformation as well. Lighted ///M badges in the seats? Motor seems like a warmed over N54/N55 hybrid (queue all the US S50/52 haters). M exhaust flap - is that really a feature or EPA bandaid that turned into a sound manipulator to try recapture a unique lost attribute? Hear that? It's the sound of E9X M3s appreciating. The F8X Ms are stylish in their own aggressive way but lacking the substance to make them truly unique. Don't get me started on the M4 part....only one manufacturer can say it built the winningest touring car in history. Throwing that away shows how irrelevant motorsport is to the current buying demographic and how disconnected the current "M" cars are from it.

Obviously after seeing these cars its unlikely I'll buy one of these. Its unfortunate because admittedly I'm a fan boy (5 of my current vehicles are BMWs) not for vanity but because I'm an enthusiast and BMWs delivered. I do like that BMW is giving consumers more options. The narrowing gap between ///m and non-m means I'll be happy with taking ED on a 435i gran coupe or 335i to replace my daily E60 550 6MT sport and not be missing much.

BMW you should read the mustang thread in this forum....enlightening.

fortunately none of those things are true.

you should read in depth the technical data on the OP in this thread. the engine is NOT a warmed over n55. just because they are both turbocharged doesnt mean they are the same. the information explaining the VAST differences, and exaclty why the s55 is so different in superior is plastered all over this forum for anyone to read.

there is NO narrowing gap, in fact, the gap between non M and M is growing in terms of performance. the prior generation featured the closest acceleration gap between a non M and an M car (335 to M3). This gen the m3 is quoted by BMW as being a half second faster to 60, making much more average HP over the powerband, making much more torque. Not to mention 180 lbs lighter, stiffer materials, upmarket interior with fixed back seats, more standard features etc...

I couldnt disagree with your premise more, and the facts point to you being wrong
