2nd Pass on PPF for my CS

Hey guys, so I already had the front bumper rockers, etc. done on my CS a few weeks ago. However, I'm taking it back on Monday to have some extra coverage added on the rear bumper behind the rear wheels.

One thing I noticed while going over the car today though (it has 200 miles on it btw) is that there are two very small "nicks" on the lower portion of the rear doors (one on drivers side, one on passenger). They are nearly identical in size and are damn near in the exact same position on the door for their respective side.

That being the case, I'm debating if I should get some kind of coverage on the bottom of the rear doors as well. Is that an area prone to chips from debris, or could it just be something random since they are nearly symmetrical? This is my 3rd F80, and I've never noticed issues here before, so I'm just curious as to your thoughts.

Thanks!!

The bottom of the front doors do get peppered by small rocks. The rear doors do not get any rocks on them though.

Interesting, I haven't noticed this with any of my M3s yet. Are we talking about the whole bottom edge of the front door?

Yeah, and if you have spacers the problem gets amplified 10x it seems. Mud flaps or PPF are almost necessary on the quarter flare before the rear wheels.

Yep, I have the rear-quarter done, but I didn't put anything at the bottom of the doors. Wondering if I should have now...

If u can do urself a favor and PPF all the doors. It's well worth it especially if u plan on keeping the car a bit. The kick up from all the pebbles is pretty damn bad

there is PPF for the airstrip at the bottom of the door. I had that done.. I was in the same boat.. I did the front bumper, hood, fenders

I saw some chips on the quarter above the stock film.. I then extended that piece, did the rear bumper, and did the airplane strip..

since then I've been pretty much chip free.. you could get the mud flaps from Tommy L Garage.. they are easy to install look stealth and will prevent chips..

PPF is a slippery slope.. I got to the point where it was like is it worth putting the entire car in a condom that costs 7k when I can get in an accident that makes the PPF worthless.

Protect as much as you can without going overboard.

I’ve got a wide swath of PPF on the lower portion of my doors and it has definitely saved me from some chips. My ‘15 looked shotgun-blasted in no time while I lived in North Carolina. For certain colours it’s a must-do.

I'm currently getting the car fixed after an accident. New door and paint on the drivers side so taking the opportunity to add more PPF while the shop has the car. I've already extended the stock piece on the rear fender. Thinking of also covering the rocker panel under both doors on each side as well as rear bumper behind the rear wheel. Also some portions of the front and rear doors but debating on how far to come up. I have spacers for my winter wheels and custom flush wheels for my summer set up so definitely need the protection.

PPF the whole panel on the doors. Wider tire will kick up rocks higher than you think. No point in doing half the door only to have a rock chip 2" above the covered area - negates the point of the ppf in the first place.
