There were so much tire selections but I decided to give 71R a try after hearing from another AutoX friend. I have had these Bridgestone RE-71Rs on for roughly over a week and close to 100 miles on them.

I went with 265/35-19 and 285/35-19. My car has ESS E-Tronic ECU. The fitment is quite nice in my opinion.

Track Conditions( Lot 6 California Speedway):
Track we ran on today consisted of a decent aged asphalt pavement parking lot with weather from 65 in the morning to high of 75 mid afternoon. I pretty much ran an entire lap under 2nd gear.

Tire pressure:
I started out with high 30s and found my sweet spot at 33 front and 32 rear.

Traction versus PSS(dry):
As expected the dry traction was superior to that of PSS. However, there was a '17 M3 Comp with PSS that ran a 57.8sec fastest lap. It which was fast considering a M2 SCCA prepared ran 55-56 all day long. My best was 55.8 but consistently in mid 56 all afternoon.

Street driving:
M3 is not a quiet car by any means so road noise was not a concern. Also, it is too early to tell if it is how quiet or loud it will be. However, the turn and road feed back is better than PSS.

I plan to use these tires on the street. But no, I do not use this car on a daily basis. Since the Autocross, I have driven the car twice around town, no more than 25 miles total. One trip was driven in a damp morning. It handled better than PSS at 19k miles and no indication of slippage was encountered.

Music to my ears. I was considering going with this setup vs the PSS in 265-295. Also not driven daily.

Load specs for RE71-R and M4

Any concern over the differences in load specs for the RE71-R and the M4 OEM tires? The RE71-R is 96W front and rear and the M4 OEM is 96Y front and 100Y rear? I only run these tires at autocross and the track when I'm the only one in the car, so, should be OK?

Are you keeping the 33 front and 32 rear pressure for your daily driving or bumping them up closer to oem pressure?

I keep the tire pressure spec of the street and bump it up 1-2 psi for the track in the morning. I measure the pressure after a run and keep it between 39-40 psi hot.

Just went through ACH over the weekend to feel how these new tires felt and they are definitely an improvement over the PSS.

BUT, anytime I would try to push it, traction control was just not having it. It felt like the car would have a spasm mid corner. I ran in MDM mode, but my brakes were getting cooked.

I started the morning off at 35psi all around and I was over 40psi in each corner by the time I got to Newcombs Ranch. I lowered the pressure to 35psi all around and drove down with DSC off and the car felt 10X better.

I really like these tires but I think it's time for euro MDM coding because I'd like to avoid running DSC off just to enjoy local roads.

I did coding via Alex@alpinemss.com

I went with
F8X Coding Options:
GTS EPS (Electronic Power Steering)
GTS Traction Control *Givens more slip in MDM and allows better traction control settings
GTS Differential
And
CS EDC
Deactivate ASD - no more fake noise

I can confidently say that the flash really transformed my car. With ESS Tuned, there is no traffic issue like before.

Also, 33-35 seems to be a sweet spot for these tires.

Enjoy!

What swayed you to GTS traction control over euro MDM?

Hi,

I think it was just to keep thing consistent with the rest of the selections.

Cheers,

I have GTS traction. I read that Euro is only “euro” at lower speeds. Once you get past 70mph or something, it’s just like US MDM.

It’s more fun on the street but for track use GTS is better.

Thanks

This is new information to me. I'll consider all GTS coding when I finally get around to doing it.
