If we're blinded we can't see how gorgeous it looks.

I ended up getting the M Performance trim kit. So much nicer and matches the car better. I recently drove down to California and loved that the interior now just disappeares when I'm driving (really driving). It made such a difference that the piano black radio/hvac trim now became a nuisance, so ill be replacing that with the matte black trim.

Simply removed the 3 parts, (instructions on here somewhere) masked the black chrome impregnated areas, scotchbrite 07447 red, 07448 gray, then white. I just created the matte look on the clear coat. It took about 5 hrs. total.

I was not blinded by it, but felt the gloss looked somewhat China ebay. I like the M2 and new M5 matt finish as well as most carbon race parts are matt. Personally it looks right to me.

Here you go. As you will see the silver trim still remains on the passenger AC duct. I already have a black one on the way to replace it so it all matches. Also have the matte black radio trim in route to me!

I completely agree with the OP

Your photo is (blind? - no pun intended) spot on!

It's not only the C.F. Most all of BMW's interior trims have too much polyurethane! It makes, whatever's underneath it look
like cheap plastic! Although there is a very nice "open pore" wood trim available, but only on one or so of the [Edit:] "i" models.

This has been posted about before...

This is a brand name for a cheap synthetic suede substitute usually called micro(/"ultra") suede, which itself is a

Both it and Suede are subject to the same ills, but Alcantara (specially BMW's very thin version of it) much more so:

* Easily Worn and suffers Abrasions ("It can be easily be cleaned." - Yeah, twice!)
* Absorbs Dust
* Absorbs Contaminants (Who needs gloves?!? - grease/sweat!)
* Absorbs Odors (Flatulence!- smelly sock!)

I do plan on getting the previously mentioned "BMW Performance Alcantara/Carbon Fiber Trim kit, if only for the matte
C.F. center console piece, as I will be reupholstering the dash trim piece with Individual Leather, embroidered with the
"///M" logo.

That's the plan (solution to the gloss/reflections!), for now.

Enjoy that Alcantara!

Cheers!

Solution's on hand...

The i3 has a very nice open pore wood trim with leather panels. All plastics besides the iDrive and instrument screen are soft tough matte plastics instead of gloss. It makes for a nice place to sit in.

I think I'm going to experiment with some xpel stealth in the coming weeks to get a bit of matte or satin look to the trim.

But that won't address the black chrome finishing strip on the trim which is next level awfulness. I've hated that since day 1. Maybe some satin vinyl to mimic the estoril blue strip the m sport F3x cars get which looks great.

That's it, Correct!

I probably meant to say the "i" series instead of "X"

The problem is, it's only offered on that model, not on our chassis.

Cheers!
