After tuning my car to BM3 stage 1, and making a couple of hard pulls, I got the following:

- Drivetrain malfunction: Drive moderately. Maximum drivetrain output not available.

After running the diagnostic, I got the following from BM3:

- 140010 misfires, More cylinders: recognized.
- 140610 misfiring, Cylinder 6: recognized.
- 140001 misfires, more cylinders: injection switch off.
- 140601 misfires, cylinder 6: injection switch off.

I got my spark plugs changed at around 27,000 miles (under maintenance plan), I am not at 37,000 miles. Do I need to change my spark plugs or am I looking at a different issue? Thanks in advance!

What exactly happened when the errors popped up, and what did you hear/feel?

One of your spark plugs may be unhappy but I'm not sure. Do you have a data log of what happened?

Does the car run fine at idle?

When I stepped hard on the pedal, I felt 'like' a misfire/rattle after like 260hp, then I got the malfunction message. After running the diagnostic, I got the codes. It has happened to me twice so far (same codes and car feeling). no issues at iddle, it is only when I step hard on the pedal.

Im not too familiar with data logs.

You should read the PTF instructions and collect a data log of the problem happening. I think your plug#6 might be a little wide. Logs will tell where to look, so collect one and then post the web link here.

Do you have a part number? And did you only do injector #6?

From my understanding Bosch makes Bmw parts. So I didn't go with genuine Bmw injectors.

Injector job is more involved, but it IS right there as you are doing plugs. It's a couple hundred for an injector set so buy from FCP Euro. You need the special tool to install them, and a very fine torque wrench.

Cyl 6 usually runs the hottest so I would change out the coil and replace all spark plugs with NGK 97506 gapped at .022

Hi, I have the exact same issue and plan on taking it to BMW next week. Can I ask if you figured out what the issue was? I’m getting the same cylinder 6 combustion misfire.

Replace spark plugs and/or coil packs and that should do it.

I just finished replacing the coil on cylinder #6 and also upgraded all the spark plugs to NGKs (gapped at .23)…. Cylinder #6 was indeed the problem, the coil was not pushed in all the way, somehow it back itself out and when I removed the coil, there was white powder on the plug and coil looked burned. After the replacement of the coil and upgrade of the spark plugs, the initial codes cleared. I am happy the initial issue was resolved but now im getting a new code I didnt have before, 140011. I wonder if this has anything to do with the NGKs? Or the gap? Any advise is highly appreciated…

140011 is for Fuel Injection deactivation. It's related to 140601 and 140010.

Faulty spark plug or coilpack very seldom triggers a fuel injection deactivation, if ever. It's almost always a faulty injector that causes this condition. Premature injector failure on Cyl 6 is fairly common on the S55.

Thanks for the info. All codes have now cleared. I will continue to monitor and hope to never see these codes again! 🤞🏼
