Wireless CarPlay

I've been having issues with my car play connecting. Since today in the morning it's been giving me issues with connecting. Bluetooth seems to connect but not Car play. Rob from easy bimmer coding told I works when I connect through wifi. When before it was working fine through Bluetooth. This is my second antenna im on in a week. Tried every method that can possibly solve this but none seem to do the job. It does connect sometimes through wifi. Anyone know what to do. I also ordered the OEM one. I have a 2018 f82

I have. He said just to try the OEM antenna which I am and going to see if it works with Bluetooth. Thank you

You could also reset your iPhone network settings

This may me a dumb question but it started working fine now but through wifi. Is that normal or is it supposed to be through Bluetooth?

It always and only works through WiFi(thats why antenna is needed)

Is this how OEM CarPlay works too?

I've always found it weird that BMW uses a Wi-Fi hotspot as CarPlay but whatever.

My CarPlay wi-fi connectivity is kind of wonky too; sometimes my iphone connects right away when starting up the vehicle, then there are times CarPlay takes a while to connect or not at all. I noticed when CarPlay does connect right away, my iphone is right about the HU on a phone mount. Then when my iphone is in my pants pocket or 2-3ft away from the HU CarPlay doesn't play nice.

Kubax86 did update the idrive firmware and activate fullscreen CarPlay on my vehicle, but don't suspect his work is the problem.

May try installing a wi-fi antenna to see if solves my connectivity issue.

Honestly just get the OEM wifi antenna from bmw. ECS tuning sells it. I've had no issues and connects right when the car turns on! Highly recommend after having issues with the other kind of Wi-Fi antenna

You really should. I had to go through 2 wifi antennas in less than a week due to connectivity issues and once I installed the OEM one I've had zero issues

Wireless carplay is so funky, I gave up on it and strictly use the USB cable for it. It's too inconsistent.

You can't use USB Cable for CarPlay in BMWs

Installed the wifi antenna today and can now pair to CarPlay right away
