Yep keep checking. I think It's a very fine partial thickness crack. Time will tell!

Relieved to know it's not a crack. It doesn't look like the usual crack that we have all seen anyway.

Then how did the dealer explain the line...

They dont know either, their guess is from the molding/press that got the titaninum sheet to shape.

I just happy that it is not a crack since I would have to remove my front lip, rear diffuser, and all my goodies before giving the car to the dealer. They can do more damage than fixing a lot of times.

To add to this make sure you use blue loctite on the threads. One of my tips almost fell off and I was lucky to catch it in time. The bolts loosen over time and many have lost those expensive tips. I added loctite and re tightened. No problem since then.

14k miles on the MPE and I have officially joined the infamous club

Good news is that my dealer confirms it will be covered under warranty. But before I take it to them I was wondering if the AA mid-pipe I have on the car will affect the warranty as that required cutting the MPE connecting pipes. My Logically it should not as the cracked muffler is an entirely separate unit and uses clamps to connect to the connecting pipes but then you never know with dealers. Bringing it back to stock before taking it in would be a huge PITA. My setup is stock DP with AA mid-pipe and MPE muffler.

Thoughts?

Ask if you can just bring in the muffler. The car is on jacks being worked on so you can’t bring in the whole car. They’re only going to replace that section anyway.

Just the muffler will get replaced. They even reused the clamps on mine. I dont think the tech care that much. To him, it is just a work order that he needs to get done. He will not care about midpipe or whatever you have on there.

Unfortunately, the dealer won't warranty it unless physically attached on the car, and the previous owner wants nothing to do with it anymore... oh well

being the very first version, is it worth saving and getting welded, and adding bracing like what someone posted a few pages back?
Get it for nothing and find an exhaust shop that welds titanium to repair and then add the braces of the current revision. Shouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars

They gave me 2 new carbon fiber tips, as the old ones were seized on, amd weren't able to remover them.

The new MPE V2 has brackets to prevent cracking.

Another one bites the dust!

Car is going in Friday for inspection at BMW, not expecting to run into an issue with warranty but who knows. I tried to send them a pic and get them to order the parts ahead of time based on the picture, but they said they want to "make sure the car wasn't modified in a way that would have caused it to happen". Was a little annoyed by that comment but I get it.

Car is a 2017 M3 with ZCP, 22k miles, with MPE installed at the factory, so not expecting to get push back... but you never know. I'll update thread after my appointment.

New guy here, joining this club as well. 28k miles. Car is going in Thursday, MPE was installed at factory.

Question: Does it make a bad buzzing sound at cold start, something similar to a loose heat shield? That's what I get when cold and after getting it really hot.

Answer: Yes. I'd even go as far saying that it sounded like a throaty cowbell.

Cracking titanium mufflers is not due to rust so it wouldn't count.

Those who had the mufflers replaced, how long did the entire process take?

A couple weeks. They needed to order the part and have it shipped from Germany. Install was a day.

One of my tips wasn't tightened or installed and I noticed it was missing after I got home. Make sure they're tight when you get it back.

I just got off the phone with BMW. They say they are rejecting the claim as it's not covered under the Extended Platinum warranty plan

I can get the cracks welded however won't it just crack again at some other seam?

What other exhaust has a good sound similar to the MPE and doesnt suffer from any cabin drone? I'm getting old and am not looking for anything real loud having said that OEM is to quiet.
