Used 2016 m3 - break in service
Hey guys, I'm considering purchasing a used m3. looking at the Carfax there's only one record of a service at 1,100 miles which states the following:
-maintenance inspection completed -battery charged -computer reprogrammed -tire check There's nothing about oil/transmission change or anything of that nature. Which I'm concerned about since that's around the time of the break in service. So I'm wondering if you guys think this is a stay away car as there are no other records for Carfax history. Thoughts? The lack of service records concern me. Unfortunately I can't do a ppi on the car, as it is CarMax lol. I'm thinking it'll be safe since it's still got factory warranty for a year and I'll add the extra CarMax warranty |

Don’t rely on CarFax. My M4 CarFax shows no maintenance but I completed every maintenance interval. Try to get maintenance history from a dealer.

I'd give it a shot. Not sure why they wouldn't be allowed if giving out only service history and not providing previous owner personal information. You can also try BMWNA.

I would assume the maintenance inspection completed would be break in there’s nothing else needed at that mileage

Agree with above; there is nothing else that needs to be done at 1100 miles other than the break-in service. The specifics of that service would not be listed in the CarFax report.
You can try the dealer - they certainly would be able to find that information, but as I recall they are not supposed to give the information out to people. That said, I believe the CarMax you can take the car back within 5 or 7 days. You could buy it and then take it to the dealer, and I bet they would let you know in that circumstance. If something is fishy give it back to CarMax. GL!

Take it to any authorized BMW dealer, explain the purchase history to an SA, ask the SA to read your key for service history. I have never heard of any dealership refusing to provide that information. I certainly have always been able to get it with no difficulty at all. The only exception I can imagine is trying to get information like that from the dealer who is trying to sell you the car. But actually I've never seen that myself either. What others have said about Carfax is correct, information is useful but spotty.

I was in the same boat. When i was contemplating buying my m3 but did so in the end. In my case i found out that some dealers do not update carfax with maintenance they provide to cars. I asked why. And they said they didn't have a reason why they just didn't. But they showed me all the maintenance logs
