For those who painted the stock exhaust Black>>>
What paint did you use? How is it holding up? Did you remove the exhaust to paint it or spray from below (yikes!)?
Am thinking of getting it powder-coated but painting is an option if someone can confirm that the paint sticks. Thanks.

What paint? Brand? Name?
How much did that run you? Did you powdercoat the tips as well?

no idea, had an exhaust shop do it years back when i made a custom exhaust for my 335i. as for what type, as long as it's high-temp paint you should be good. Rust-Oleum has one on Amazon for sale.
I never did the tips however, just the muffler. If really want a cleaner looks (especially if you are thinking about doing the exhaust tips), i'd say do it ONCE correctly and get it powdercoated (or buy a different set of tips prepainted). there are number of vendors here that sell gloss black tips for the OEM exhaust.

I painted mine. Took the tips off, sanded them, and used high temp grill paint. I'll be honest they are starting to look a little sketchy and its only been about 6-7 weeks. I would powdercoat for durability or buy aftermarket larger tips.

They are a bitch to take off. I used a rubber mallet and a hammer similar to the previous post. You have to beat the back of them like you hate them to get the clips to loosen up. The tips looked great after I first painted them but time is taking its toll a little on them. It was never meant to be a permanent solution. Simply a temporary fix until I found tips I liked. If you plan on keeping the tips long run then powdercoat them.

agreed. if OP's plan was to get new tips, i would either buy new ones or powdercoat them.
for a black muffler, however, i would just use a high-temp paint can. no one will be able to see it from behind (which is the whole point) let alone pick out any defects/details.
