Sounds interesting... Photos of your "very low profile USB power adapter" & of that "right-angle USB cable", please. Cheers!

Best part - should let me direct connect the BM3 iOS built-in agent, while maintaining charge and still keeping CarPlay, Waze, etc., functionality. (At least, it's all worked in prelim testing the last couple days.)

First off, MAJOR inspiration from this thread (and I call this out in my post), but just wanted to reply/share with what I came up with in my F80, cause I'm REALLY damn proud how this mod turned out!!!
I’m definitely not the first person to do this, as I’ve had inspiration from others who have experimented with other concepts, but I wanted to share what i TRULY feel is the closest to the perfect OEM+ look. I’ve loved my Kuda mount from day one, and immediately attached a generic magnet to the front. It worked great for a year, until I recently upgraded to a phone that has the wireless charging capability. Knowing that it would mess with the coils and be bad for the phone, I decided to research long and hard for what would be the simplest, cleanest, and most low profile magnet mount out there. Lo and behold, there is a mount simply called - MagnetMount. I figured if i could dremel off the back side and open up the kuda mount, that would allow for a super clean/elegent look while increasing functionality. And with the “ring magnet” it avoids any coil/phone issues. The iPhone 12 or 13 is also rumored to have this magnet ring built in, so if that holds true, then I’m even set for that generation. Hopefully this inspires someone else out there, just like how other bimmerpost guys have inspired me to come up with this. I even call this out in the video - shoutout to bimmerpost (warning: the video is long, dirty, and in-depth, but its for the ones who want to know EXACTLY what I did, and what it takesi) Enjoy! **Oh, and a happy coincidence is that their is an "M" and it lights up....was not a factor or planned, but i'll take it lol Parts (links in description) The MagnetMount Kuda Mount (BMW F series) Sugru Moldable Glue Aukey Mini USB Cell Phone Car Adapter StarTech Micro USB Cable (Down Angle) Trim Removal Kit —————————————————————————— Special thanks and inspiration of previous “modders” https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1341665 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1605476 https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1060441

Any issues with this after a month of testing? More so specifically, does your phone fly off under hard acceleration from a dead stop?

I stick two of these magnets onto the lower part of the dash (?) just below the knee/leg rest pad, and just place my phone horizontally onto them. These magnets are STRONG.
https://www.amazon.com/Maxboost-Magn...e-b06387f8bcf1 The charging cable extends from the arm rest console to the phone under/around the e-brake. Very stealthy, and works great. Even if I forget to grab my phone once in a while when leaving the car, I'm not concerned that burglars might see the phone and break in to steal it. |

Stealth location indeed. But i do need GMap navigation hence your location will not work for me.
Thanks for sharing nonetheless. Last edited by uluwatu06; 10-12-2020 at 05:10 AM.. |

This location is for the person who doesn't want/need to refer to his/her phone while driving - no checking of texts or other notifications except at the red light. My goals were to keep my phone mounted + charging + accessible if necc + clean-looking dash. |

Yes you are right, i need the GMap; just made the amendment above. Where i am working currently, the roads and way-findings are a bit.... eeerrrrrrrrr.... so yeah, using the onboard navigation does not work most of the times. Your phone location certainly meets all your listed criteria. Thanks for sharing. |

With the new MagSafe chargers for the new iPhone 12 models, it would be interesting; 1. To see how strong those magnets are in a car during daily driving, track driving, etc. 2. If there can be a similar console mount like what other solutions are currently using. The pad is quite large so it may look out of place.

I am picking up my 12 Pro today and wanted to see if you were able to use this same mount style with it. The mini would be smaller. Looking forward to see how it works out. I’m going to try a few things with my setup. I noticed that my iPhone X got hot when wireless charging and would slow my wireless CarPlay to a screeching halt in terms of responsiveness so I had to go back to my vent mount system as the AC helped cool it down while charging. Didn’t want to put the Scosche plates on the back of my new phone so we’ll see... |

Magstick on the trim which is magnetized. Wireless charger connects to the Magstick (has a fan built in).
