Nice thread over on RL.

Is our community consensus still that F8X CCB are equivalent to Porsche Gen III CCB?

Am curious because on the RL thread a Gen III TTS owner needed a new set of CCB after 12 track days. That makes it sounds like the old ways apply for heavy track users (i.e. box up your brand new Gen III CCB, track the car on iron, reinstall CCB when time to sell car)

The poster says

That looks like damage from careless wheel change or trapped pebbles. Rotor surface still look very good. You should read some of earlier threads to see how CCB typically wear.

991 Turbo is just as heavy as F80 and much much faster, so it the rotors can last on that car, say 30-40 full events driving the car at 9/10 pace I would say that is pretty acceptable.

"Just got back from Champion Motorsports.
Here is the story. Champion Porsche (dealer)had a density tester, they told me to make any appointment for Wednesday, quoted me $350. i then called Champion motorsportst told them to borrow the tester from their parent service department. So, they got the tester when I showed up.
Tester was brand new in the box never used. Mechanic read the directions, and
it was really very simple to use. Three mark numbers on hub, all numbers were below allowable limits.
Basically they are TOAST!

Have 30 k miles on car 25+ track days, i have no clue to how many track miles?
Anybody have experience with Race Brake in Fullerton ,CA??""

Bummer...

There is another data point. I added the bolding

I totally get that ymmv, i wish we had more consistency in life expectancy of CCB for track users. I took a pass when I ordered out of concern for possible $8k cost per year on rotors

I read somewhere that the M5 iron rotors are a direct fit.

Thanks I will check that out but of course the other choice is to do a BBK which will still be cheaper than a CCB rotor replacement per axle set.

Have you just been using OEM pads for the track?

Yup, working well, although they wear relatively quickly, ~50% in two events.

I go through about 1/5 front pad material thickness per track event. My event is 2 day at Barber MSP in Birmingham, AL. Typically 180-200 miles per 2 day event. Great feel, no fade. Am a bit disappointed in the life of the Oem pad. I do change them at 50% remaining thickness based on FTS recommendation since he has much more experience than I do. Wish they lasted longer.

Two 3-day events, that's about 350-400 track miles.

I think that is really good practice just to make sure rotors don't get abused. I reuse the remaining pads for street over winter and off season

In my three track days, I just calculated it to be about 250 track miles. I may be able to get another 1 or 2 days before the pads are below 50% I'll pull them in the spring and check.

Remind me why we need to change the oem pads at 50% life? so we dont overheat the rotors?

Well it looks like after a fair bit of research I will become a member of the CCB club when my M4GTS arrives in the spring. It does appear that if can keep the rotors in the temp range where the oxidation is minimized and you do keep the pads at 50% or above you can get a good bit of life out of the rotors.I tracked a friends 997 GT3RS a few times that had the ceramics and after 3 years of life the rotors were still well serviceable and the pads were changed out at 50% with no issues.I did pound his brakes quite hard on slicks and they where awesome! As he said to me it is time to embrace technology and move along with the times so I guess I will
With the ability of having the rotors refinished & using the Pagid RSC(when available)pads I am not so apprehensive about going this direction.

For those measuring thickness, are you using ruler/caliper or just eyeballing?

They are not interchangeable, both hub opening and offset are different.

We have just released the CCB direct replacement iron rotor kit. Not only they are made for a direct bolt on installation but the size is reduced to 390mm (390x36) for more wheel clearance to preserve your wheels from damage due to tight caliper clearance. (optional 400x36mm is available upon request)

Click here and see option #3 for details.
