Regarding the comment on the strength of the seat backs. In most "race cars" there is a seat back brace. Many race seats are almost non functional from a strength standpoint and many times referred to as a shell. Recent designs with side head restraints are marginally better, but most race tech inspections won't pass you without the seat brace solidly attached to the roll cage. Mine in my cup car has an adjustment so you move the seat, you can adjust the back brace up as well.

Composite seats do not require a seat back brace. aluminum seats however do.

After a week at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen I need to solve this issue. I spent the entire time trying to stay in front of the steering wheel, not driving. I do have a question that someone might be able to help with.

The Quickfit pro requires a pass through between the headrest posts. Well, for us those are there, but they are covered. The backs are identical otherwise to a M2, 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 series, etc.

Link to the pic for the stock seat back - Here

Link for the F80 seat back - Here

So... It stands to reason that if we were to create a passthrough in the seat between our "integrated" headrest posts we would be in business? I inquired to a local coachworks and they can do it. "No problem, we can make it look 100% stock and even emboss the M logo in there if you want."

A link to someone who did it with another make. - Here

Is this even a good idea?

I feel the same way, I bought the Schroth quick fit pro.
The back seat clip install was straight forward, but for the M4 the front latch is tricky there is no bolt on the front because the seat belt attaches to the floor not the seat like in the M3.
There is one little hole there, that is too small for the m10 bolt, I'm gonna go to a shop and see if they can make the hole bigger to that size or put in a smaller flange bolt
Anyone have a solution to this?

I’ve installed the front mount under the seat bolt (under the rail). Works perfectly.

My question would be, how will they make the inner flange stay in place? The belts will press down on it quite hard and will rub back and forth. What will keep that CF or plastic piece in place, and what will prevent it from pressing down and deforming/wrinkling the leather?

Otherwise I think the forces on the seat back are similar whether the belts go through the middle or the seat shoulders. I’d do it if the answer to the above question was satisfactory.

Same questions I asked. He recommended that he mount hard plastic to the lower frame and directly to the headrest bar and then cover it directly with "hard wearing" leather. As it is in the passthrough as long as the surface looks like the stock leather you won't be able to tell that it is leather mounted to plastic. He then said it is the flange that has to be done right to make it look "stock". Still investigating.

The problem with the McGyver solutions is that they don't have a chance in hell of passing PCA/BMWCCA tech inspection

It's sad. I still remember people in this forum whining about how the E9X seats didn't look special and how much they wanted one piece, POS seats 'like the AMGs have'.
Well, BMW listened and now we're all stuck with stupid seats which don't serve for anything.

Oh the good old days with the E36/46/9X when you could happily install the QFP harness in 20 seconds and use a Hans device in the same car you pick your kids up from school in.

Now, we have to change the driver AND passenger seats into 6 point monstrosities with a harness bar to be able to use a Hans device if you're running with any organization that has an actual tech inspection.

The fail is so strong it makes me feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

I don't know.

I wouldn't use it if I wasn't satisfied with the safety of it. I trialled it before using on track with Hans and it has passed scrutineering at CAMS sanctioned events.

Since Schroth doesn't have a "quick fit" solution for the F80, I decided to figure out a solution.

I used the Schroth E90 quick fit pro kit with Anit-Submarining.
Only thing different I had to do was add a longer bolt for the main seat belt.

Installation took about 30 mins and was pretty easy.

Now to the problem with the headrest not having a belt pass through:
The harness naturally seems to come up at the exact right spot (When using a HANS device)
I additionally had a custom strap made to ensure the belt can not slide down between the seat sides. (Function the poles in the E90 headrest did)

I'm not sure this is safe, but it is the solution I'm using and the best I could come up with.
I do really like this solution, can you please share the information about how you made the strip?

Take a look at this one: http://www.vetteworksonline.net/cata...roducts_id=163

At least one other forum member is using this. I might give it a try in the fall.

For those of you using the QuickFit harness, which model do you use? Obviously there is not one specified for the F8X but is the one for E92 the one you guys have?

The product below also can do the job of the custom made strip that one of the previous posters created. And it adds two shoulder harness pads!

I hope this helps someone!
