An aside the E9x M3 was also exciting because not only was it coming with a high revving V8 but the sedan returned to US market.

Would have been a near perfect car with a 500hp high revving V8 instead of the fartcan 6. |

As a counter argument, I don't think it's BMW being oblivious at all. Instagram and Facebook users are probably going to eat it up/promote the hell out of it. BMW has obviously pushed their marketing to different channels, and I'm not sure they really care if the forums are dead or not. I think forums in general are on the way out. I just bought a 2020 STI and signed up on NASIOC from my fond memories of it being THE go to resource for everything Subaru related. In comparison to Bimmerpost it is beyond dead. I have multiple posts and PMs that have seen absolutely no action in over a week. I'm not sure how much time the forum era has left in it, so I can see why BMW might be focusing its efforts elsewhere. I think we just find it especially jarring since the execution and marketing of the latest model has been so different than past generations.

I don't know how you asserted that I came to that conclusion, when the point I was trying to make was that I'm not sure BMW cares if the G8x forum is dead when there are many newer/trendier and more effective ways to market the new M3/4 than on a car forum. In no way did I even hint at only forum members disliking the new car. But that also doesn't mean that the new M3/4 was marketed to forum members/die hard M fans as the main consumer. The urban motion sickness inducing and social media influencer green wheel drop videos are pretty damn obvious of that in my opinion.

So this is where you've all gone! What a shame to see so many long standing members that have contributed immensely over the years end up here, terrible what the admins have done
![]() You're not missing much over on G8X, nice and dull over there now all saying how great everything is lol. Last few pages of this thread are already far more interesting than whats over there, lots of knowledge from mechanicals to track experience thats now not going to be shared there, their loss. Doesn't look like its been posted here but thought you might like another cracker of a video by marketing. Didn't see Jason post this on the front page for some reason... ![]() |

Like everything that motivates and attracts us to M cars is far afield from the perspectives of non-forum members. There’s no sound basis to think that. If I operate an Italian restaurant with 50 regulars and 45 of them despise my new menu items, I don’t conclude that I’m really onto something with the next 500 who come through the door. To the extent that the forum audience is disconnected from “regular” M3/M4 buyers, it would mostly have to do with what the car can do (forum types) vs. image/what the car symbolizes (non-forum types). Historically, the former has informed and boosted the latter. M3’s didn’t become cool by decree, they earned that reputation. Image-based owners wanted what the car legitimately represented, what drivers and enthusiasts said about it. The G8X is the first that is cool by decree of M. At the moment I’d say they’re trending more toward stigmatic than cool, but we’ll see.

So I had plans to pick up a mint E39 M5 over the weekend but I got a text Friday night that he decided to keep it. Super bummed. Unless I get another chance to pick something like that up I just don't see myself buying another BMW. The brand has lost me.
