I also have an OEM X5M key that I realized was useless.

1) Buy replica key above
2) Switch out the 28 pin IC from my OEM M3 board to new replica board
3) Swap the new replica board to OEM X5M housing

Basically the process?

Yes you got it. Thats exactly what I did. My only feedback from using the new key a couple weeks is that the RFID proximity detection isn't as good as the OEM key. Im sure this is a result of an inferior fake copy...more specifically, an inferior antenna on the circuit board as opposed to a 1MHz spec difference.

you will not be able to get a OEM X5 key from BMW. Keys from BMW only come programmed to a specific vin. Just want to make sure everyone knows that incase someone is promoting you can buy a blank OEM key from a BMW store

Im sure you can get some knock off non OEM key from else where but I can't comment on that only from what you can get from a BMW dealer

When a BMW store orders a key they have to verify the vin and then BMW cuts the key and sends it pre programmed to the dealer. Think about it, if you could buy blank keys that were not pre programmed you could potentially use them to steal other cars? If you are able to get a blank key from a BMW dealer then I dont know how they were able to do it unless its a non OEM part

It seems all you have to do is order it with your vin and license and pair it with your car. Pair it buy holding it to the steering wheel "key location marking" and holding the start button and brakes ON and pressed until it pairs. Seems simple!

Im going that route.
I'm curious to see if this will work, and then will it only work for the basic functions such as lock/unlock etc. I'm really interested in the remote start feature that Kies shows in their video. I'm waiting for their video install guide to evaluate the install. I'll give it shot if the install isn't too difficult.

Im simply ordering PN. 66129867202 and its my understanding that I have to give them my vin and show ID that I own the car and they will mate it to my car (it will work locks out of the box, but one must pair it to actually start it I was told) vin.

There is additional option for the lazer key which I dont plan to get since I will have my stock keyfobs with that already have them.

Hopefully its as easy as Im told it will be. Well see!

let us know how it goes . but all of the hundreds of keys we have sold over the years all required a vin and are sent pre programmed to the vin we order the key from. we dont get blank keys and can't buy a blank key unless its associated with a vin.

But isn't that what he is saying? He's going to order it with his VIN so it's preprogrammed from BMW to be able to pair it with his car. If this works, I'd rather go that route than the X5M key. Way cooler key! Haha

Maybe I miss read that, so he has a i8 and is ordering a i8 key? If so then of course he can do that. I was under the impression he was ordering a i8 key using his f80 vin and was thinking it would work? If he has a i8 and is ordering a i8 key then of course you can do that, what he does after that with the key is his own business

Are you saying that BMW won't allow us to order an i8 key with an F80 VIN? If so then just say so. No need to mince words.

Not sure how hard it is to understand my previous posts. From our exp you can only order a key that is for the particular vin number you submit. not sure how much more clear I can be about that? If I am not being clear I apologize for any confusion.

example: buyer calls the dealership and want to order a new key. They tell the service advisor there vin and what car they have (vin once in the computer obv will show what model the car is) the parts dept orders the key, bmw sends the key that matches the vin/,model. you can't say here is my vin, send me a 7 series key. There may be some sort of loop hole with this I dont know, I can only comment on what our dealership does and has experience and done for 24+ years as far as keys go.

Yes, that’s what he’s saying.

Not sure why he isn’t just responding that way instead of rewriting “War and Peace”

Thank you brother. I'm gonna go for it anyway. Put this dead key to use.

A vehicle locksmith in Hong Kong has the OEM 434MHz blank keys in stock and he is able to program it to work with my M3 CS. He has done a few cars before mine including 2 series. The procedure is not that simple as the locksmith had to take out my FEM and use a chip reader to read one of the chip inside the module so he can generate a security code in order to program in a new key.

He is a link to the video of the key in action.
