To me the m3 base/zcp will always win out against everything else because of the manual. And you can just throw a tune on the base car to replicate a CS EDC and GTS steering feel / diff settings.

Yeah no manual in QV sucks. I would've bought a manual if it was available. It's still a great car with automatic.

Owner Swap Review: F80 M3 ZCP Competition vs Giulia Quadrifoglio
Quote:
Regarding the review I think its an excellent idea. Two knowledgeable car enthusiast guys driving each other's car with a neutral party in the back seat having a candid discussion about what they like and dislike about each car. I give it a thumbs up but would have liked to see them both driven on a track or least a more challenging road and talk about those differences . Also, being a CS owner I would have selfishly liked to have seen a comparison of the M3 CS against the Quad. One thing that stuck out to me was the comments by all 3 about the M3 being such a harsh ride. That has not been my experience at all in my M3CS. Comfort mode is quite comfortable. Makes me wonder how much different the springs/settings/chassis tuning are in the CS compared to the M3 Comp |

I envy people who had a choice between Alfa and f80. I hope next m3 will have what Alfa did.

Agree, with JRZ coilovers along with different software Im sure it's better than just "pretty good". And probably took out the harsh ride those guys were complaining about as well.

Well done review. I have done the same comparison for myself and agree with 90% of what they say. Way more truthful review vs the standard journalist job where they give u cheese feedback after 2 hours in the car and paycheck from the factory.
I think if I was car shopping today, I would pick Alfa over regular m3, but I didn't. The things I did not like about Alfa were smaller back seats, lack of drivers profile settings, basic I-drive system, and unknown reliability and depreciation. These made me reconsider my desire to trade m3 for Alfa. However there were quite some things I liked in Alfa over m3. Still I couldn't go for the trade given that at the end both cars are not perfect and very similar. So I decided I wait and go for Porsche later on... Now, one thing I wanted to mention is that I recently fell back in love with my f80. All I did was to install M Performance exhaust. Everyone who is not happy with sound, get MPE and your case will be closed. Man, I am pissed at BMW for not including it into basic build or at least offering it at 1-2k option, like Porsche does... Anyway, get MPE and BMW M3 is the UDM again.

I feel like the cs fixes everything wrong with the f80. And before my comp f80 felt harsh over bumps and was really not a great dd. the cs is a very comfortable drive and is really the zero compromise sports sedan!

Although from a purist point of view rear drive is more fun and engaging, when you have about 500 HP
Or more AWD begins to have an an advantage in overall handling. It is simply physics. All that power using twice as many wheels to maintain grip on the road. IMHO a decided advantage . The next gen M3 and M4 will likely have an AWD option and it will be faster than its 2 WD brethren. For example, the current M240 is nearly as quick as the M2 even though M2 has more HP . All about the more efficient delivery of power to the ground. I used to have a 1996 GT Mustang , it was great loved it. Mods - intake exhaust suspension and breaks. However in the wet it got a little hairy |

My M4 was $2500 drive off (before BMWCCA $500 rebate), $846/mo incl tax, 15k mi, 3 years. It doesn't have ZCP, but has enough options that it could well have had ZCP as that has no impact on residual/MF. I looked at the Alfa but when I got my car I couldn't get anywhere close to my deal on an Alfa. It's easy at 7500-10k miles, but getting the deal at 15k miles is harder.

I'm going back and forth with an Alfa dealer now and the best lease numbers I have been able to get out of them are $988 a month for 36 months and 10k miles with zero down. Not horrible by any means, but still doesn't touch the deal on my M3.

All joking aside, pretty much all performance tires need to get some heat in them before you go anywhere above 7/10's. Snows will get lots of traction in 65 degree weather if they're the same size.

I used the snow tire example just to level the playing field to offset the "but the Alfa has R-Compound tires" excuse from M3 loyalists. BTW...I was not referring to using the snow tires in 65 degree weather. Sorry if it was not that clear to you. To your point, even on a hot day with warmed up tires, the Alfa is more sure-footed, but again, the more defensive M folks will cry that it is only because of the Corsa R tires, completely missing that there is a meaningful difference in the rear diffs. One car's is just more effective than the other's. Last edited by mcc3456; 02-12-2019 at 06:29 PM.. |

If the CS removes the harshness then that's a win, but don't make I sound like the ZCP has "lots" wrong. That's nonsense. I bet just a switch to PS4S' removes considerable harshness.
