I don't think exhaust system need any break in period to sound louder but that's what I experienced.
I drove the crap out of my car once I got my Akra Evo. Its definitely louder and deeper in tone. I'd do the same to the MPE.

It took 5,000 miles for it to settle.

BMW never did that for the V1's on the E9x platform I doubt they will do this.

Version 1
19500 miles

It came as an accessory on the option list ($4935 for the MPE, and $1480 for the carbon tips)(since day 1). I am still within the new manufacturer warranty 4yr/50k miles.

Note: When I start the car in the morning, the noise is like metal vibrating. I thought it could be just that the rear diffuser I just put in that caused the noise. Until I came accross this post last night and put on the lift to check then I found out I have the crack as well.
The part that I really hate about this is I will have to remove the front lip, rear diffuser, my GPS tracker, Flap Controller, and remove all the crap out of the car before giving it to the dealer. The last thing I want right now is that they damage my add-ons. I also have mine ceramic coated, and I bet they will put it through the washer (swirlmark maker) regardless how much I am going to tell them do not wash it.

Why ?

They don't all crack. They do replace when it does crack when covered by warranty. I think that's perfectly fair.

So I stopped at the dealer today and they are going to replace it. They dont have the part, so they ordered it.
The part number on the work order that they ordered is: 18-30-2-357-916. I dont know if this is revision 01,02,03 or 04. Really have no idea.

I will update once I have the part, which will be couple weeks. that is my guess since they said they may have to ship it from Germany.

My point is that they should change it if the v1 cracks. Maybe I wrote that wrong. Under the current warranty if I am not the original owner, BMW will not replace it under warranty which is BS because regardless of owner it's a defective unit.

I agree. But it's like the infamous rod bearing issue with the e92 m3s; they know it's a defect but they won't replace them unless covered by warranty. Hopefully ppl spot defects early and get them replaced under warranty.

Just got mine replaced.
Has that "03" at the end, and it has the brackets.
Hope it will stay strong.

There are a few 03s with the brackets. Since my original mpe was a v3. It was replaced with an 04 so I'm assuming they all have brackets.

I just found a big crack in my 2017 Comp Pack with MPE. Gonna send in to dealer (in Singapore) for replacement. Wonder if there are any differences between the 03 and 04 versions?
Is there any significant sound difference between the bracket version and the old version?
Those with the newer ones with bracket... have you seen any hairline cracks developing?

Honestly, if not for the cold start rattle, I wouldn't have detected any cracks. No difference in sound or performance when driving around.

I've gone through two MPEs (one cracked the other was damaged in an accident) and they all sounded the same. I didn't catch the version of my third but it was brand new shipped from Germany so most probably the newest version.

When was your last replacement? Any issues since then? Hopefully the newest version is not prone to cracking, as my warranty would have ended. Unless BMW gives another 2 years extension on the replacement part.

Does the new one sound any quieter? I think someone mentioned it's not as loud

Usually, when the exhaust is new, it's not really loud because it needs to be "broken in"

The MPE was only replaced 2 months ago and I no longer have it, so I can't provide any insight as to whether or not they fixed the problem.

They all sounded the same. My 2nd and 3rd one sounded just as loud as the first!
