I disagree with you on this. DCT/PDK is faster for both upshift and downshift and that is more than a tenth per corner. If you've driven on a track with heavy braking zones, you would know it is incredibly difficult to downshift more than 2 gears with MT without a 6-point harness holding your body in place due to high longitudinal G .

That being said, Castle Combe likely does not need one downshift per braking zone, it is likely around 0.5 sec faster for PDK just from gear changes. Because PDK stays in the higher power band all the time due to gearing, I expect the total gain to be around 0.7 sec.

I usually dislike quoting 0 - 60 time because it has no real world application but in this case there something to be said about the difference in speed.

In every application I have looked at, the PDK-S and 6MT in the 718 (982) has at least a 0.5 second difference in 0-60. Whether it is 3.3 (by independents) or 3.8 (quoted by Porsche) for the PDK-S or 3.7 (by independents) or 4.2 (by Porsche) for the 6MT. Half a second difference is going to count when it comes to track times. Think I only found fastestlaps . com but it wasn't comparing to anything or showed which tranny it used.

I don't think the littler things like, limited slip diff is slightly different on the PDK compared to it's 6speed version, or the big 8 lbs more Torque in the PDK-S will matter.

At the end of the day, I think people should recognize the reason why Porsche cars are amazing. I still have a bit hard time grasping that a NA 6 cylinder engine can produce such amazing numbers without any aide of turbos.

MY CA was driving the manual for me while I was passenger. Car was still just blazingly fast the car absolutely didn't need any turbos.


ntg44 I grew up with JDM cars and for me, I still like them. Sadly I was literally in Middle School during that time so, all of the 90s JDM legends passed me by. However, most JDM car culture are completely different and they tend to go a bit far down the rabbit hole when it comes to modding.

That is just a different culture and taste. In my age, I find it slightly tacky but... I also did that when I was young so I can't say anything lol

Honestly if you we're unhappy with the F8X I don't see how this would he so different in the dynamics and especially sound department.

I've been checking out the E39 and E9X market lately for the hell of it and prices are just becoming insane. Its getting harder and harder to find ones in good condition, I guess nows the time to get an older BMW before they get even more expensive than they already are.

I heard one in person and it definitely sounds better than an S55. Deeper, no pops, no burbles etc.

I probably wont order one but everyone says its a better driving car just ugly. Dealer wont let me drive one tho...

You must be in an incredibly patient person, do you have a Sports car or some thing fun to drive and just not talk about it here?

Seems like you’ve been shopping for a car for at least a year?

After selling my C7 Corvette It took me 2 months to find my f82. I was miserable for those two months. Life is too short not to have a bad ass ride.

I do not ... I have not had a fun car since March 2020... its pretty maddening.

While stein_325i was out in Porsche heaven , here's an interesting info video from the G8X launch that had a lot more F8X insight than I thought.

They tried to spin it a bit in the G8X favor but I'm sure you guys can see right through it. Cost cutting ultimately led to no CF shaft on the G8X and also why they switched to the steel shaft at the end of the F8X run (cheapest fix for a problem out of their control).

Didn't realize they had done 18 episodes. They should have included mechanical and technical videos like these early on instead of how to change drive modes and turn on and off the electric handbrake.

If a 50mm alloy driveshaft is able to achieve optimal harmonic balance despite being prone to the issue due to a smaller diameter, what prevented them from making a 70mm CFRP driveshaft for the F80 LCI? It is a simple matter of replacing the factory weaving shaft to 70mm vs. 90mm since the inside of the CFRP driveshaft is hollow; after that would have been a simple matter of bonding respectively sized flanges to each end.

For a fatherhood SUV I'd do GLC AMG over X3M for the V8 alone.
