Shaking Car
My 2016 M4 is being super weird.
It is very cold here in toronto and the car pulses and vibrates while accelerating at partial or even WOT. Car pulls hard, no check engine light, but the vibration is super annoying. It seems to always be worse the colder the weather gets. Other than that in cold weather, even sitting at a stop light putting my hand on the driver side door you can feel vibrations throughout. Is this normal for anyone else's cars? I have to mention i do have cat-less downpipes. It seems to be weather is the biggest difference maker but even idling i can feel vibration on the door. I have only gotten it a handful of times to be completely smooth while idling. Had spark plugs changed 5k kilometres ago, tires balanced, oil changed. Car pulls strong, no check engine. Confused and ruins the driving experience, feels like all the boost coming through is going to bust the charge pipes in pieces when i accelerate hard, shaking pulsing everywhere. |

I have had the car serviced yes but have not had engine mounts checked, i had a cbc installed recently.
This car has has the same issue for the whole time i have had it and i bought it used with 14k miles on the dash and had it PPI'd. Also it has gotten a tiny bit worse but not too quantifiable. The cold really brings out the pulsing/shaking. It is not really rpm or speed dependent but at WOT you can definitely feel it more. I will get those engine mounts checked potentially |

No not related at all to the engine temps, if it's frigid outside the car shakes and pulses more especially as you really hammer on it.
In the summer you could hardly feel it/barely feel it. Also my idle still you can feel vibrations in the side of the door |

Would vibration lessen if the car is in neutral vs in gear if it's my motor mounts.
This car has so many buzzy shakes and vibrations everywhere. I think this catless MPE might have something to do with it. |

Perhaps. I know in my F10, when the car is under load (acceleration) the vibration gets worse. Also bad in cold weather. A mechanic should be able to look at yours and tell you. I may have mine replaced soon.

Yes. Just replaced motor mounts in my e46, but have replaced them on multiple bmw’s and the application should be the same for any car. When in gear (auto) it causes the vibration much more simply due to the additional load on the engine. Putting it in neutral reduced it by roughly half if not more.

When was the last time it had a turnup? Might be time for a tuneup. Motor mounts are not really an issue on this car.

I can feel the vibration in the steering wheel, side door, floorboard, everywhere. Annoying buzzy feel. I was thinking recently maybe my catless downpipes are hitting against the subframe |

Nothing wrong, he took it for a 30 minute drive with me. He has driven countless amounts of the F8X and said most exhibit some sort of vibration. At this point he suggested i could chase this but the chase is going to end up with driveshaft removal, sent to balance machine, and we go from there. I am really stumped. |

Is this your first season with that winter wheel and tire setup?
My GUESS is it’s vibrations from your winter tires being passed into the cabin via the awesomely stiff chassis Edit: I had random noises in my f80 attributed to stuff in the front door pockets, so there’s definitely vibration passed into the cabin. I’ve never had plush interior cars so I never thought it was an issue. |

I shit you not i have spent over 1 grand on tire balancing for this and it's not the tires, my mechanic confirmed it. He sees a ton of M cars, does rod bearing repairs, crankhub fixes, etc. He doesn't know why the F chassis gets so much vibration but driving my car he pinned it as smack dab in the middle of the pack in terms of resonance. This is my opinion, this car has far too much chassis vibration and feel (i.e. feel from the exhaust resonance, dct power shifts, diff clunk and operation) and far too little feel in the steering and connection to the road. I think this awkward balance makes the car feel broken, anytime i run the car through super rough roads the vibrations in the chassis don't annoy me as the vibrations from the road feel drown it out and it feels like a proper sports car. It almost feels like i am floating on a camry suspension and steering feel while being inside of a 2003 stripped out 260k miles e46 M3. Like i feel the steering and suspension should match the rest of the stupidly rough chassis character. It boggles my mind how at times i can't feel what's underneath my feet or what i am steering with my hand but i can feel the damn dct smashing my head from the back and the diff clunking and operating. |

Are our motor mounts electronically controlled?
My Odyssey was and when the electronic mount went bad I felt a lot more shaking. If the driveshaft was the issue, you wouldn’t feel it at idle. |

My car has a buzzing at idle but the actual vibration on load feels a bit different so not sure what to attribute it to tbh. At this point i will wait until summer comes along, it seems to become 80% better in warm weather. |
