New positive update. I was able to speak to the service manager and he agreed to have a new BMW representative look at the peeling roof. Within a minute the BMW rep verbally agreed that the roof needed to be replaced and that it should be covered under the warranty.

My next step is to send proof of my original request to have the roof peeling fixed back in October of 2018. I'll keep you all in the loop.

I actually thought about that since the last 2 times I went to the dealer for this I had the first parking space to get to the entrance and I noticed many people, customers and sales people looking at the roof.

For now they have verbally agreed to replace to roof. I am waiting for the official approval from BMW. I should know more today or tomorrow.

I know it's hard to believe in 2019, but you can still get a positive resolution without throwing a huge tantrum either in person or on Twitter. A win for humanity!

Honestly, I've never had a dealer deny a reasonable request. I'm always polite, persistent, never call in lawyers and almost always get my way.

They want to keep selling colleagues and I cars so they know doing the right thing will be beneficial in the long run for sales.

Exactly. BMW replaced my F80 and I never once had to do so much other than ask nicely and explain why they needed to replace it.

He’s in Florida. What do you expect? I’ve found dealers here are quick to sell and quick to hide when issues arise. I’ve been trying to get one of the numerous recalls on my Jeep fixed and it’s been ongoing for a couple of years. A recall. I thought BMW would be better because you know, BMW. Same crap.

Glad you’re getting it resolved. It does look like someone poured something on it. The fact that you have to fight this just sucks.

I have unfortunate news. Even though BMW verbally approved replacing the roof 3 weeks ago they are now saying this is not a warranty issue. BMW is refusing to do anything to fix the problem. So if you live in a warm temperature environment consider getting the sunroof and not the carbon fiber option. BMW will not stand behind their product.

Sucks! But... that's the first F80 I saw having issues like that.

I would keep escalating through the regional and national bmw channels as I know of one m6 (f13) carbon roof which was replaced on bmw's $ in maryland two years ago due to failed clearcoat. So there is history here of warranty coverage and not just for the southern sub belt states.

And the more reason for BMW to just take care of it under Goodwill.

You must be kidding

Looks to me like rock chips which got worse over the time with sun and maintenance products.

If you have a rock chip and a detailer using a high pressure washer and gets too close may could be the issue in this case.

Not sure how you can get a rock chip on the roof. I'm gonna give the OP the benefit of the doubt here. This could happen to any of us in the future and BMW is probably trying to set a precedence by not covering it. But seriously, that's why it's called goodwill.

Not sure how you get rock chips on the roof? Same as on the hood, bumper, windshield etc.

And yes, BMW will not cover rock chips.

Rock chips, hot and soft clear coat + power washer ... could do damage like that.

Given that I'm not a fan of the black roof look carbon or not, you could paint it body colour and fix the problem.

OP... The cf issues isn't that uncommon on vehicles with cf roof. Unfortunately it can be a rock, stone issues plus sun, water, salt etc.

I always think it's ironic when people wrap their roof in "carbon fiber" because they're actually adding weight. 🤯

But they're making their wallets much lighter in the process, so it's a wash.

May be the reason most Porsche carbon roofs are painted
