This is a random aside but I have a personal vision of opening up a $100-150k car account where I use the funds as a sort of escrow account for my vehicles.

Want to buy and maintain a $50k porsche? Done out of that account, proceeds go back in. etc.

The point would be to simply get to enjoy lots of cars but also enjoy the fact that, when well managed, the account balance likely wouldn't go down over time.

You need the right cars and the right timing of buying and selling.

M3 class sedans or non GT Porsche are unlikely to get you there.

Eh, you can't buy something that loses $30k in 3 years and have it work out, but you can likely buy 5 year old 911s and make the payments and repairs/maintenance using the returns alone without touching the principle.

you should try it out with a GT car or a heavily depreciated used Turbo

Or if you can go to Huracan Perfomante or "long tail" mclaren, that should be ok too.

Porsche NA 997.2s have held their value and gone up over the last 2 years. Solid low mileage 4S Targas are in the $80k range, GTS are in the $70s and solid, no story, low mileage C2S and C4S with manuals are bringing upper $60k to $75K.

My wife purchased a base 997.2 C2 cab with pdk last summer with 56k miles for $42.9k to drive for the summer and fall. She put 13k miles on it and sold it for $45k 4 months ago. We listed it for $45k in March and had 2 full price offers and one offer for $44K within 48 or so hours on Car Gurus.

I bought a C2S pdk for my 22 year old to drive while she was home from college. She only put 3k miles on it and I sold a few months ago for $3k more than I paid for it.

The 997.2 turbo and GT3 market has sagged a bit here lately, but I think the 997.1 tt with Mezgers will hold value well now, especially the 2009 which has the 997.2 body and interior, but the 997.1 Mezger engine.

Yes, I see the 6-10 year old 911 market being excellent for finding opportunities to buy a car with practically no depreciation.

You are still dealing with acquisition costs (i.e. taxes) and repairs/maintenance, but on a $50k car we're talking ~$3.5k first year (including taxes) vs. say a net return on $100k banked at $5-6k.

Point being, managed right, I believe that financial model could work out to use the gains on a ~$100k "car account" to fund fun cars.

I'd go with that new Aston Martin Vantage.

If you want to start trying that out using my 6TT send me a PM.

Selling because I've decided to deprioritize everything that is not a race car or a tow vehicle
