Chipping of CF Roof
Hey guys I've got some nasty looking chips in the plastic/cover over the CF roof. Is there any threads that might have some good info on how to go about fixing these? They are all located right behind the top edge of the windshield. Picture attached. Thanks

Happened to me and my clearcoat started to peel a little... It was about a 1700-1800 dollar fix since they had to re-clearcoat the entire roof. I went through insurance since the rock chips came from me being behind an 18 wheeler and some rocks smacked my roof. Paid deductible and insurance paid the rest... You can try doing touch up but I was told it wouldn't look perfect. As a result, I opted to just go through insurance and get the whole roof clearcoated again.

Had some chips from previous owner. It was more like gashes instead of delamination like you have... It isnt perfect but im happy with the results. The original surface has a ripple from the cf but after i filled them in, there are flat spots from my repair. It isnt noticeable at all and when i installed PPF it hides it and you cant even tell there was any repairs. I wanted to seal the chips b4 it got worse since i live in the north east. If water gets inside and freezes, it can start to delaminate... |

Find a reputable body shop to strip and re-clear your roof. Then invest in some PPF to prevent this from happening in the future.
This has also become a somewhat common issue on E9X M3's, you may have some luck asking for shop recommendations over on that forum.

If it were me, i would use a needle to remove the lifted clearcoat. If the damage doesnt spread, i would try touchup clearcoat like i did for my repair.
If removing the lifted clearcoat spreads larger(like peeling skin from a sun burn), most likely the coating is compromised and recoating the entire roof would be the correct repair. |
