Got the low coolant warning today...

Noticed that car was dripping coolant when I dropped it off at the dealership. Any common issues involving coolant leaks?

'18 M3 with 15k miles.

Thanks!

Common issue seems to be large amount of surface area as air inlets in the bumper that can ingest road debris into one of the several radiators causing punctures/leaks. Advise checking parts quotes online and asking parts dept to price match if it seems high.

Check for a leaking intercooler. You’ll probably need to have that part replaced and oil drained to get rid of the coolant that had contaminated the oil.

While certainly possible, I would think if there’s coolant dripping on the ground it’s from a different source.

I think he's talking about this intercooler leak.

Coolant leak can be loose hoses or broken intercooler box. Chip radiator. I think it's a intercooler defect though. Warranty should cover it?

Got word back from the dealer this morning. A rock hit the high temperature radiator and punctured it. $1700 to fix ($500 parts/$1200 labor). Called Progressive and they're covering it under the comprehensive portion of my insurance. $250 deductible. Should have my car back Monday or Tuesday.

Sorry to hear it, but I feel your pain. At least your dealer quoted reasonable parts and labor.
