From what I can tell part # 33-10-2-289-970 (production between April 2014 and July 2016) that you mention has been discontinued and replaced with part # 33-10-8-090-464 and is the rear diff used for the M2 only.

The latest part # 33-10-8-090-473 is supposed to fit the 2015 M4 so yes the part you found should fit.

Where you found 33-10-8-090-473 is suposed to fit 2015 m4? Cause i searched on realoem.com and with my vin code 33-10-8-090-473 is not showed, I have a vin from one of my friend with 2017 m4 competition and this part number on realoem is showed to his car. But as I know his carbon propshaft have different lenght than mine.

What this mean? 33108090473 fit my vehicle? Maybe is something like bmw upgraded someting in differential interior and changed the code of part?

No, not exactly. The vehicle in question is an M4 with a build date of 05/2015. Based on Realoem here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=33_1838

01 Final drive with differential 1 04/2014 07/2016 33108090464

So from this, it tells you that part #464 works for vehicles built from 04/2014 up to 07/2016

While 464 is superceded by these two:

33108047142 (07/01/2016 — ), nonexchangeable retrospectively
33108090473 (07/15/2016 — ), nonexchangeable retrospectively

Your vehicle falls out of the build dates indicated

So with my 2017 with a build date of 10/2016, for example, #473 works for me, as indicated:
01 Final drive with differential I=3,46 1 07/2016 33108090473

EXCHANGEABLE RETROSPECTIVELY means "if your vehicle is within the indicated date range, then the part WILL work"

NONEXCHANGEABLE RETROSPECTIVELY means "if your vehicle is NOT within the indicated date range, the part will NOT work"

I think that's it...this is confusing so if I got it wrong, someone definitely should correct me but that's how I interpreted it

His car has a production date of 2015.05 and according to bmw-etk.info and RealOEM:

Name: BIMMERPOST01.png
Views: 1936
Size: 11.8 KB

This means that we can assume that the rear diff 33108090464 and 33108090479 will fit his car. It is just strange that it does not mention the ratio for part 33108090464 so we can assume it is also 3,46?

Also part 33108090479 seems to be a remanufactured final drive but it is according to different websites many times more expensive. How can this be explained? I thought that remanufactured components where approximately 50% cheaper not 300% more expensive:

It also makes what makes wonder why the rear diff build after 2016/07 it not compatible with previous models or maybe it is compatible but it will need a different and costly carbon driveshaft, from what I can tell these are 6MM shorter in length (?)

Based on your VIN it will fit not officially but I cannot come up with a reason as to why it would not fit nor is there information available as to why it would not fit.

Not fit, I found differences, nut is same but axle have different teeths, mine 970 have around 34 teeths(grooves i don t know exactly the word in English) and 473 have around 27. I ordered now one with same code like mine. I think 473 can fit only with cfk propershaft change. Thanks all for help.

Hello!

Sow hat was the part number you tried and did not worked?
I have on my car the 33108090464 code and don't know if the 33102289970 will work.

The ratio is the same between 6MT/DCT, however, there are two versions of the diff with different amounts of teeth: 27 vs 34

And I can confirm that 33108090473 from a DCT F87 does not fit on a 6MT F80

F87 uses same diff as the m3/m4 lci, It doesn't matter if it's manual or DCT.

If it's an older MY F80, I imagine the DS wouldn't work with the 473. 27 vs 34 tooth, or 1477 vs 1471mm.
