Swapping rims with TPMS

Hi all,

I have a set of tires and rims recently acquired that have TPMS's installed.

Having never swapped over rims myself with these sensors (but know how to swap rims) what steps are involved once the rims are on the car with respect to the sensors?

Also, where are you guys sourcing your jacks from given these cars don't have them and I'd rather change the rims myself come winter?

My M2 took probably a good 6-7miles before finally completing the reset.
2miles local, plus about 4mile highway then stayed at 99% for another mile or two before completing.

That's odd. All I do is once I get the wheels on, start the car, go into I-Drive and tell it to reset TMPS. It'll say drive and I drive around the neighborhood ring (about 1 mile around) and by the time I get back home, it reset and gives me the tire pressure. One thing to note is that the TPMS on both sets of wheels (Winter and Summer) are OEM TPMS but it shouldn't make a difference really.

Yeah, I don't know. Both of my wheel sets have OEM TPMS as well and they've always taken a couple miles to complete their calibration or whatever the hell they're doing.

I swap wheels summer and winter. The reset in iDrive is no biggie.

For jacks HF is the spot, or AZon. You'll want at least a 2-ton with a nice wide lift cup. Here's a nice 3-ton low profile Pittsburgh jack for $175, so you don't need to buy ramps:

ESCO Jackstands are the best. If you can find old used flat-top stands (Sears/Craftsman?) they work good. Need 2. Need flat tops to sit your Lift Pucks.

Lift Pucks, get 2 plastic, not metal. Metal gouges jacks and stands. Poly cushions.

Don't forget a pack of rubber chocks:

Harbor freight jack stands are on recall from China for certain models failing and possibly killing you
Going under a 2 ton vehicle is no joke
Please don't cheap out and buy proper jack stands
I use 4 ESCO stands and they come with a nice padded too to not damage the jack pads on the bimmer

Yeah, I also heard of people trying to use the 1.5 ton HF race jack and it giving out.

A jack stand should be used with a jack just for the reason that jacks have been known to fail. Hard to do when the side jack point is being used with the jack but that’s what the center jack points are supposed to be used for.

How come no one mentioned torque wrench? I guess you guys want OP's wheels to fall off at highway speed, LOL

Here's the best Jack I've owned. It's light and can easily lift up x5M even (I've tried).

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-Ton-...ack-64544.html

Burger Tuning Jack Pad Adapter lasted me over 10yrs.

https://burgertuning.com/products/bm...ck-pad-adapter

This torque wrench served me well over 10yrs. Torque wheel bolts to 105ft lb (95 if you use copper antiseize, recommended for winter condition due to salt corrosion).

Use these sockets to prevent wheel damage

Best impact wrench for the money (you can do it manually if you prefer)
