2016 F80 M3 DCT Base Model

74,593 miles (purchased from lease return @29k mi)

Currently 100% stock hp wise but about to go dark side w/custom tune and will be running flex fuel via ecutek

She's well-maintained and gets driven like she was made for. I've got plenty of seat time and ready for the next chapter of this car. Here's my cost of ownership so far, excluding traffic citations, insurance & fueling:

KW Variant 3 on the car for 42k miles now
Red Line 5w50 every 5k miles (oil filter every 2.5k miles)
On the verge of 3rd spark plug change (NGK 1-step colder)
On the verge of 4th wheel alignment
On 3rd set of Michelin Pilot Sports
On 2nd set of brake pads (chg @ 50k miles)
Still on 1st set of brake rotors :
Transmission fluid changed at 50k miles
Differential fluid changed at 50k miles
Coolant changed at 65k miles
Performance thermostat installed at 65k miles
Cabin filter changed at 55k miles
OEM Intercooler and MAF Sensor replaced at 30k miles under warranty right when I purchased car
Car came free w/Dinan X-Pipe & Exhaust Muffler
Destroyed Oil Cooler at 74k miles. Replacement & turner skid plate on order

Front bumper touch-up paint DIY at 74k miles (saved $1-1.5k)

How do you know if you need to get an alignment/how often do you do it?

Usually people change rotors when they change pads bc pads last so long. How did you know/decide to keep the same rotors?

Covid has been keeping miles down - '18 ZCP with 14k. Blown out radiator at 1300 (box cutter impact), and eccentric shaft servo replaced at 10k or so (issue was present from 2k miles onward, but took pushing dealer on it), good after that so far..

Wow. Sounds like this crank hub thing is overblown.

How long has it been tuned like that?

Still has me worried though, it would be my luck that I tune my 2016 and then Boom im out 10K for a blown motor.

The costs of actually upgrading it to a state where you can make proper use of the added power are high enough, that a crank hub solution doesn't add much to the budget IMO. And then factor in taking it to a track in that state.

I don't see much point in a stage 2 tune if you're not doing anything for handling and grip, or using it on track.
This car barely holds traction at stock power levels in a straight line until you're above legal speeds

I suppose some people do it to show off when drag racing on highways at night or something, I dunno. I'm sure it gives some great thrills when flooring it and leaving skidmarks on the road but besides that there isn't much to it.

Edit: To add, when I'm not afraid to break warranty but still want to play it safe, I think I'd flash a CS or GTS tune. Can't be too bad if BMW still sold cars with a warranty on that software. And I'd imagine that's still nicely driveable on a mostly stock standard M4. Be real, these are still crazy high power levels!

No particular different maintenance than the norm. I do a lot of the work myself, lots of DIYs for our cars. I drive pretty calm for the most part, but I still manage to hit the M button at least 1-2 times a day to do some pulls and burble away.

I have a long commute to work. I spend about 2.5 hours of my day in a car, why not do that in style.

Been at different stages of tuned for last 60k. As far as crank hub, I do think the crank hub is overblown for stock to bolt-on F8Xs. I don't use the kickdown thats about it. With that said if I upgrade the turbos i'll pin the crank hub as well while i'm at it.

2019 M4 (18 months old). Now at 75,100 miles.. Tuned with BM3 stage 1 91 oct since 5,000 miles. No issues at all. As in none. I apparently will need my first front brake pad replacement in 6,000 miles, the rears still have 19,000. This is super surprising to me as I drive my card hard. Apparently a few red-lines per day keeps the Dr. away.

If the car is pulling to any side by itself on a straight road (assuming that stretch of road is level) or steering wheel is not squarely centered when you know you are driving straight. Or your tires are worn out unevenly.

The rotors should be measured and compared it with the specs tolerance. If under, replace it. There is also a sensor on the rotor that will cause dashboard to light up if way under.

Rotor replacement is not complicated. The only issue that you may have is the removal of the screws that holds the rotor to the hub. If you are in the snow belt, those screws may be corroded and you need to be very careful to use the right size tool and not strip it or you'll turn a 2 hour job into several hours. I'm speaking from experience when I did mine on my M235xi. I have not replaced anything on my M3 yet since it's only 7.6K miles.

Were they malfunctioning so that warranty kicked in?
Is your model just before LCI or after ? I thought the LCI was 2016?

I paid $1k (parts and labor) for both fluid changes along with spark plugs as part of my own custom "50k mile" service that was done after 50k miles, and not at a dealership, as I don't trust them with my car.

Correct, they were faulty and leaking so warranty kicked in. I have LCI taillights and Xenon headlights, so not sure :

what's a reasonable dct service price at an indy BMW shop?

Anyone can give input. I'm at 32k miles, 4 years old should be at 50k in about a year and a half and plan on doing it around then. The service kit is only 250 off ECS, but I hear people say its 1k alone to service it

1k sounds about right. 50k is probably a bit early, unless the trans doesn't feel right I'd push it to 70k.

The DCT in my old FBO 335i is still rock solid at 180000km/112000 miles, still performs perfectly. Serviced it once at around 150000 km/95k miles. Unsure if past owners serviced it.

Seeing as this is just a newer generation of the same trans, I expect it will be just as reliable.

2019 CS, picked it up 11 months ago, just hit 10k miles... working from home and not driving it daily since covid so it's a garage queen. I take it out once in a while on the weekend back roads with buddies just to keep it running.

Did you track your car ? Just wondering regarding how long brake pads last
