Fuel Tank Warranty extension??

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Got this in the mail today. Anyone receive the same? Doesn't really explain what symptoms of the issue might be if it manifested. Did a search but didn't see anything.

All I can say is that sounds Fking dangerous!

It always bothers me at the race track walking around in the garage smelling fuel.

Yep I figured that, but to date I haven't heard any chatter on the forums about people experiencing fuel tank leaks. 🫤 interesting to get a warranty extension for something that doesn't appear to be as extensive an issue as charge cooler leaks, rear differential leaks, etc 🤔none of which to my knowledge have received extended warranty coverage.

I got the same letter on the mail this week. I have a 2016 non-ZCP F80 M3 and I'm with you that the letter doesn't say a lot. I just put it in the car's folder...

I agree about charge cooler leaks, but they probably won’t burn your car or garage to the ground.

I replaced my 2018 F80 fuel tank last month for a leaking gas tank. It seems to happen quite a bit as I've seen multiple posts pertaining to this issue. My symptoms were a strong gas smell coming from my garage every time it was parked inside. I wasn't able to locate the problem but my local BMW dealer did.

That is crazy because I quite often smell a strong gas smell, especially at the race track when the cars are really hot and we have refueled.

Also, this is my M2c.

I'd recommend you bring it into your dealers and have them take a look at it! My leak was a slow one and wasn't visible on the ground to pinpoint/locate. It could also be from mods like aftermarket DP as well.

I get the strong fuel smell at or after the track too, but I believe that's due to fuel vapors and possible boiling of the gas, as opposed to an actual leak. At least I hope that's the case...

I went back to stock down pipes because of state inspection here. I bought the car catless and what a pain in the ass.
It has a raw gas smell at times. I’ve had some big V8 cars running high flow or no cats, this isn’t the same.

Interesting. I never got this warranty extension letter. But did have a tank leak and was covered under warranty last year.

I guess they consider it a safety concern. Considering it is a potential fire hazard compared to other components known to fail....

Fuel tank issues?

I haven't experienced any fuel smells in my '15 M4. However, there was a previous letter in May 2017 which extended the Fuel Tank Leak Diagnostic Module warranty to 10 yrs/120,000 miles.

You might want to redact your personal info from that pic...

the dealership is refusing to service my car under this extended emissions warranty. Even though I have shared this document.

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...12779-9999.pdf

they are claiming the fuel tank does not fall under this extended warranty. What do you all think I should do? thanks for the discussions. The warranty manager at the dealerships is claiming this issue is not covered. any advice?

I can't open the URL you attached, but the letter in thread starter very clearly covers the fuel tank. Did you receive that letter? Is your issue a fuel tank leak?
