VPC replace tire? Curb damage?
Getting out of a tiny tiny parking spot in an underground garage in Florence, I did the unthinkable. I made a small curb rash on the driver's side rear 666m wheel. The curb damage isn't too bad about 1 inch but definitely annoying. Worse than that, I took a large chunk out of the sidewall of the mpss tire and made about a quarter inch deep cut that wraps around the sidewall about a foot. Getting out of the garage, the car scraped the bottom a little but I don't think there was any damage there, no way to really tell without a jack or lift.
Will I get a new tire at vpc at least? Rim repair? I will note both damages on the loginout dropoff in Munich. I will also note the scraping to the underside although I'm not sure any damage occurred. I've got about 800km left to drive on this tire to dropoff and no real way of getting it replaced pre dropoff. PSI and temp seem fine, no visible bubbles. Thoughts? |

Also, if I wanted to replace the tire due to safety concerns before continuing my ED, does anyone have contact info or know who to contact to get this done? -Nate |

The admin in the "other" forum posted an update to ED policy on repairs. I think a curb rash is considered normal wear and tear and no longer repaired. I'm not sure I can post a link here, but do search for a thread entitled "BMW policy for wear and tear for European Delivery" started by tim330i

When u drop yr car off at your drop-off location they will have you sign a form acknowledging that rim and tire rash are considered wear-and-tear and BMW will not repair it. I dropped my car off in Frankfurt on 21 July.

I curbed my wheel on the last day of my ED in Aug '14. Dropped off my car in Nice and reported the damage. I got my car back fully repaired!
But that was 2 years ago...

The bit of rim damage is fine, repaired or not, it was my fault. I'm more worried about the tire damage being a safety hazard for the rest of our trip. Any thoughts on this?

Also, the new policy regarding the insurance coverage is clearly noted in the ED packet and I believe on the BMWNA ED page of the website. |

Whether something will, or will not, get repaired or replaced will get authorized by ED's ensurer - Allianz. Your ED paperwork should include something with Allianz's contact information. Give them a call, and find out what your options are. a

I did ED Sept 2015 and my wheel w/ curb rash was repaired/replaced at VPC.
Don't lose hope. It may very well be dealt with when it returns.

I dropped off in July and I had to sign a paper that said curb rash and rock chips were not covered and were considered normal wear and tear, so they my have changed it since you did a delivery in 2015. I had a lot of rock chips above the rock guards over the rear wheels. No curb rash. Made my wife get out the car and guide me if it was tight and there were definitely some tight spots in Europe.
