Berlin to Amsterdam
The last leg of my European journey will be Berlin to Amsterdam where I am dropping the M3 off. I would like to break up that drive so on the last day I am not sweating getting the car to the drop off in time. An obvious choice would be stay in Munster for a night, it's only about 3 hours from Amsterdam. Anyone stayed there or any other suggestions for a stop on this stage?

Smart move (very hard to predict traffic flow). I have not stayed in Munster but have visited (2011) and am looking forward to going back. It is a university town with great architecture, nice shops/cafes and a vibrant feel to it. I was impressed with the phenomenal amount of bikes everywhere. There is a nice walking/biking path that circumnavigates the old city (Altstadt).

If you are thinking of going to Munster, I have a great suggestion. I stayed at an amazing castle hotel fairly close to Munster; Schosshotel Lembeck. It has a freaking moat and the first floor is a museum. Plus, when I was there, they had a classical music concert in the garden, and they have a great (and not expensive) restaurant that the locals frequent.
We had a fantastic turret room. We happened to find a hidden doorway behind some tapestry that led to a small spiral staricase to the attic, that had a ton of the extra museum pieces in it. It was amazing... |

Just checked to see if they have the rooms listed, and they do. If you want to have a chance at the hidden staricase behind the tapestry, we stayed in the Wiesenturm room, that has a private antichamber, as you enter, with those tapestries hanging, and it leads to the tower room. Who knows if it is still unlocked, but it was super cool. We never mentioned it to the staff. |

Just booked a room at the castle. Thanks again for the tip. Larryn by any chance did you eat in the Restaurant Rosen about 10 miles away? Looks like a really nice restaurant and seeing it is my wife's birthday thought it would be a good choice. We are at the castle for 2 nights so the other one will eat in their restaurant as you suggested.

Their restaurant is not fancy, but had great local food. If celebrating a birthday, perhaps Restaurant Rosen might be a better choice. The place was awesome for us. Hope you have fun! |
