I would pay to see a reality show starring some of these G8x owners when ppl say something about their beautiful car. Some of the most thin skinned ppl ever. |

Everyone know the F series is the last hoorah right before the drastic plastic surgery disaster... At least they can post their fast dragy times. Seems like a whole lot of previous Dodge owners are on the "G" forum. Go figure.

Uhhhhh, a whole lot of drag racers/Dodge owners were in the "F" forums too (..and the massive power potential is exactly what brought them to the platform). Let's not rewrite/re-envision the past.

I watched both of Matt's videos - his PCD experience and his walk-around introduction to the car after it arrived to his shop in Orlando. In the second, 32-minute video (see below) he bitches about the car for 28 minutes and spends 4 minutes complimenting the M Carbon Seats, wraparound screen, the rear seat space, the S58 engine. The rest of the time he complains about the car, saying he doesn't even view it as an M3, that is has no connection to any M3s of the past, etc.
The commentary around "no harkening back to the past" is really over the top. The car is 4" longer and 400 lbs heavier than the F80; 7" longer and only 200 lbs lighter than the E90. It's not the end of the world. Matt didn't like the F80 M3 so he didn't experience that generation much. He is comparing this car to the E36 and E92 generations. Through that context, I understand why it feels so different, but almost every single car model in the world is incredibly different than what was sold 15-25 years ago. Honestly, Matt seems bored or depressed about more than the car. If he really hates it that much he should have bought something else to rent out at his mountain house, such as an F90 M5 or 911 C4S or RS5 Sportback.

I’m sorry but that is just the way this dude is. All his videos are complaining about something and never being satisfied - hence why he has OCD. Watch his other videos. The only car he truly likes seems to be E92. Also he is pretty spot on about G80 - its more of a M5 descendant then anything resembling what M3 should be. Btw as an M fan i have built M3 probably 100 times and tried to convince myself to get the car but then everytime i see one the street i say to myself “NO can’t live with that grill” I’m sure Matt wanted to build new M and do PCD again but when he got the car, reality sank in - at least its a business right off. Anyway M2 comp will be next new M for me, just waiting for them to release some nice colors. Last edited by R N M; 12-03-2022 at 07:45 PM.. |

he's a perfectionist so he's never satisfied. he bought a 1000 mile e92 m3 for like $120k and spent tons of money modding it. he bought a used m2cs but was mad it didn't have the ceramics... so he bought the ceramics for $14k from bmw or whatever ridiculous price it is.swapped to ohlins suspension even though he doesn't track. always talks trash on rep parts and tunes like bootmod... saying people should buy oem or carbahn/dinan stuff.
but he is right. every m3 has been different from the last. an e46m is like a luxo barge compared to an e30.

He even mentions the big yellow sticker inside the laser lights. I specifically did NOT want a car with the laser lights for that very reason, that yellow sticker annoyed TF outta me! Last edited by NickyC; 12-03-2022 at 09:31 PM.. |

Supposedly he is first on G87 list at his dealer, so this G80 was sort of a stopgap until that arrives.

Not to mention, if he doesn't like the G80, he won't like the G87. I don't know him well enough to point this as a OCD problem. Many people who have OCD are different, mine is very clearly different from his.

Matt has owned an impressive collection of sports/sporty cars: a 991 GT3, 991 GT3 RS, 992 GT3 Touring, 718 GT4, E82 1M, E36 M3, E92 M3, F80 M3, F10 M5, S2000 CR, GT350, C7 Corvette Z06, F-150 Raptor Gen 1, F-150 Raptor Gen 2, and probably some others I'm missing. His recent stable has been Porsche GT cars and BMWs from before the electronic power steering era. If that's your comparison set, you're not going to respect what the G80 M3 or G87 M2 have to offer. He's very public about his OCD. He said that deciding to embrace his OCD rather than try to manage/avoid it is what led him to pivot from wealth management to launching the Obsessed Garage brand. From his YouTube bio: "It has been quite a while now since I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I started this channel as a way to support my car journals on forums like Rennlist and Bimmerpost, and it eventually became my outlet. I forced myself to grab the camera and bring you along on my car guy journey as a way to get out of my own head and connect with other like-minded people. The result of letting go of my superiorities and fears has been completely life changing. Letting people in is difficult for me, but it has resulted in the creation of a brand, organized a community that has a culture of excellence, and ultimately has changed my life. I can only hope it resonates with your life as well."

I'm a little surprised after all these years folks are still so enthralled by this guy. It's like this fandom that has morphed into nut riding. Who gives AF what he thinks about these cars. There's better content out there if this sort of thing interests you.

Only reason I'm not buying right now is because I'm waiting for delivery on one... LOL It's at the dealer, just waiting on a truck to pick it up and ship it to me. hahaha

I saw that thread/post. Glad the dude was fine! He totally admits it was driver error (wet/damp road and no traction control).
But yeah, I had a similar thought: oh man, one less YMB out there.
