2018 M4 Paddle Shifters Intermittently not working

Hello everyone,

I have a 2018 M4 and my paddle shifters suddenly don’t work anymore. Pressing upshift/downshift does nothing, and happens intermittently.

I went to an independent shop and they found this code,
*8044B0 SHIFT PADDLES SHORT CIRCUIT TO BATTERY (+), POSSIBLE CLOCK SPRING CIRCUIT INTERNAL SHORT*

Anyone else have this issue? Any possible fixes?

Haven’t checked codes yet though.

I found a post somewhere that mentioned going full lock left then full lock to the right and that's supposed to sort it. This worked for me, I guess it resets the sensors......

Let me know if it works for you...

Negative…. It did not. Did more searching on the boards and this has happened to a few others. The fix was replacing this.

Bummer. Have you replaced it yet? If not maybe try disconnecting the battery and then doing the lock to lock after you reconnect and restart.....

So I got a shop to check it out and they found that the previous had owner had installed an aftermarket steering wheel and when they put back the OEM wheel, the wiring werent routed properly, and some were pinched causing a short. My shop rerouted the wiring and this fixed it.
