They make larger profit margins outside the US. Why go through the effort of developing a special product to sell it for a diminished return in a more competitive market?

I wouldn't blame them for not bringing it over. If It flops you can guarantee they'll never bring over anything else.

Keep in mind that the lack of GTS kit is basically camaflouge w/o having to use swirlies, just keep existing F82 parts on.

I could be wrong, but the likely reason you're seeing the new front lip now, is because it improves airflow to what is surely a tuned S55.

Mercedes can do it. Porsche can do it. BMW should be able to do it as well.
I think his point is that as long as states like California create such restrictive pollution regulations, it's not viable for BMW to bring a car over that is only legal in 49 states (esp when the 50th state probably accounts for most of its would-be sales).

Also to people complaining about the wing, it's much easier to test a modifiable wing's downforce than fabricate a new one for every adjustment. I doubt the final version will have a boy racer wing, but will probably retain the most optimal adjustment angle.

And BMW just doesn't have the depth of lineup behind them like Mercedes (Daimler AG) and Porsche (Volkswagen AG) so it's more difficult for them to adhere to CAFE standards when their lineup consists of only sport oriented drivetrains.

The front lip is probably to add downforce, not airflow to the s55. I'm sure there will be a power bump, but I doubt it would be large enough to require bodywork... The GTS is a track machine, that ugly rear wing provides a significant amount of downforce and hopefully helps that rear end stay planted!

^ that ugly wing! for the widebody of the M4, they need to put one like this to add significant amount of downforce!

That wing is ugly. In reality the only thing I want out of this car is the higher output motor.
But I would take a competition package - lower ride height, new wheels, exhaust and 30hp/tq more.

I don't think it's an emissions problem.

Chevy can get a Z28 and Z06 to pass
Mercedes can get 3 versions of their C63 to pass
Porsche can do the GT3RS and ~300 units of the GT3RS 4.0

I don't see a good excuse for BMW. Its competitors do it. This is not some wonderful 5.8L NA V10 that revs to 9500rpm, it is clear BMW does not have what it takes to give us that, unfortunately. AMG can build an SLS... BMW gives us an i8.
This is a boosted version of the S55. The lack of weight will make MPG/emissions be the same as the regular M4.

I hope this thing has a solid 500hp, carbon doors, Ti exhaust, race seats and no nav crap. Should take 200lb out of the car!

You sir are correct. I agree on all points mentioned. Emissions isn't the problem BUT the buckets seats definitely will not pass regulation (Porsche had problems with their 918 buckets, something to do with mandatory height adjustments..) and the cage would never pass. There must be obstacles that we don't fully understand that's keeping these special editions out of the U.S.

You're right, we know the CSL seats would never pass in the US

However, the GT3RS is sold over here. The cool euro seats are optional and not road legal, but they still manage to sell the car here!

That's why BMW was not going to bring the E36 M3 to the US. With a huge push by BMW CCA and some others, they finally gave us the E36 M3 and it was one of the best all-time sellers.
