I went to the online portal, and submitted a message under my account->send message->document request. . I basically explained that I needed a letter from them to authorize me to pickup the custom plates for my car. They asked me what the custom plate said, then mailed me the document (I believe it was a power of attorney?), that said something to the effect of "<My Name> is authorized to pick up the plate '<Plate Text>' and use it on the car. "

Unfortunately I cant view the message now as it expired after 30 days, and i no longer have the document either. At my DMV atleast, i never actually had to present this document though.

I just did it online. I forgot to check the leased box though. oops. Plates came in the mail.

I really think the DMV workers are misinformed on this issue. To those that had trouble picking them up, did you select 'No' to the leased question when ordering online?

Also, I really think the question is meant to find out if the vehicle is company owned or leased. Here's the question on the form:

"Is this Vehicle Leased or Owned in a Company Name? Yes No"

I take that question as a single part question, meaning "is the vehicle (whether it be leased or owned) in a company name?

To read it otherwise could actually be two questions:

is this vehicle leased or owned(?) or in a company name(?)

Answering that as a private party you would say yes, leased, no, not in company name?which doesn't make sense.

Therefore, I think the proper reading of the question means the question is of company registration, not leasing.
