Every 20,000 to be safe. It’s $60 for one bottle. I do a lot of drifting and donuts so I am a bit of fnatic and change mine every 10,000. I had a friend drifting every weekend and at 9,000 was almost empty. If you drive normal and civilized you should be fine with 25,000-30,000

Rear diff oil change interval in EU cars is 60 th km (37 th miles). I personally change the oil every 10-12th mile. You need 1 l of BMW diff oil (part no: 83 22 2 365 988) and 2 x Screw plug with O-ring (part no: 33 11 7 525 064).
After 35 th miles diff oil looks like this: Oil was dark but there was not any particles or sediment.

Differential fluid is due every fifth oil change or no later than 50,000 miles/60 months.
See post below for maintenance intervals. Towards the bottom. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1501292 Last edited by AlmondJayRoM3; 12-21-2022 at 04:01 AM.. Reason: Fixed link |

Coming up on 50k myself. I'll be doing this as well as the oil. Going to do the spark plugs and coil packs while I'm at it. Anything else I should tackle while I'm at it? |

Lift car, drain fluid, replace drain plug, remove fill plug on the side, fill, replace fill plug
Easier than an oil change.

Would it be worth changing out the transmission fluid. I've got the DCT and I haven't had any issues with shifting. |

Search YouTube. Help Me DIY has a few good maintenance videos covering the F8X including the differential service.
Otherwise it’s pretty much as simple as what Kilabyte said. Some other stuff to keep in mind: 1. There’s a note in the procedure to change the fluid at normal operating temperature. Probably because it’s thick and to get wear products into suspension. 2. F80 Differential fill and drain bolts are torqued to 45 Nm, not the 60Nm that the video on youtube says. This bolt is utilized in other applications where it is torqued to different values. 3. Ensure the car is level when filling the differential. Last edited by AlmondJayRoM3; 12-21-2022 at 04:44 AM.. |

Yep -- and if you do it this way (and thus get a really good drain, letting it sit, etc), it does take slightly more than 1 L to fill it up fully
