Thescout13 the 1,200 mile M service can be performed up to 2,000 miles without voiding CPO.
Yeah I know I have said that before.

Similar situation. Ended up foregoing the CPO for a much better deal as-is. Dealer had 4 or 5 recent M car lease returns on the lot, I think they were looking to move the cars as quick as possible. Good time to be shopping for 2015 models.

I can't for the life of me understand who would buy an M and not do the 1200 mile service. I paid the dealer to do this on my 335i and 6 years later I think it was money well spent as the car has been rock solid for me. Looking forward to doing the 1200 in the F80, should have it by the end of the week.

I came across one with a Carfax sheet that not only skipped the 1200 mile service but didn't even bother taking it to BMW for subsequent service, just some random local shop in the neighborhood. Isn't maintenance included for the original buyer?!

If it was modified they may not have wanted to take it to a BMW dealer, or if the BMW dealer is far away / out of the way it may have been easiest to just pay a local shop for minimum service, such as oil changes. Are the records you have on the car detailed enough to show that the original differential fluid was changed?

Carfax didn't have that level of detail. This is one of those ask the dealer if they have any service records kind of situations.

I was told 1,700 recently.

My dealer had one that had not been done until 2,400 and that killed it. Alas, who the heck knows - but/and, why people would wait until 2,400 miles is beyond me.

Yeah. I'm fairly confident it's 2,000 as I was told so by multiple dealers during my search and even looked at one CPO F80 that had it done at 1940 something.

I wonder if they are more lenient when doing ED? That could easily put you over 1200 before completing delivery. I could then see someone scheduling the maintenance when they get back but then have a week wait but still drive the car and go way over. I don't know how well it's explained but the expectation I've heard is pay out of pocket for the service in Europe and get some type of goodwill reimbursement when back in the states.

When I took delivery with a ~1800 mile drive home I was told the grace period was 500 miles and had mine done mid way at 1200 miles. If you can get someone from BMW NA (not a dealer) to quote you the 2000 limit I'd think you'd be safe though.
