There is a greater performance leap going from CP to CS than there is from base to CP, even if there is less peak power gain. It is all about the area under the curve. The CS tune puts the F8X chassis on pretty much on par with the Giulia QV and C63S in acceleration.
We are saying the same thing regarding the performance leap from CP to CS.

Also, can't you simply add a CS tune to the CP and be done with it?
I am also curious if the CS tune can just be added to the CP. I am not aware of any mechanical differences between the two, unlike the GTS (in which case one can't just simply add the tune).

Like you said, the cost difference from Base to CP ($4,750) is significantly less than from CP to CS. Hopefully BMW makes it worth the extra $ from a performance perspective (which, based on the dynos, seems true).

not sure if added power is going to make the CS a better car, down low torque unlike NA engine makes this M3/M4 very twitchy already. That's why M2 shines, it's more balance between chassis to power delivery.

I just did the whole gts interior and it was 20k plus labor. I paid 92,500 for my m4 new in 2015 with every option. I dont have GTS OLEDS yet and I way over spent for what you get out of the box at 98k lol ..

The hood is another 8k for OEM another 9k for OLED. The CS is going to be the best thing for the money. Personally irritated that this is the real M4 we should have got from the beginning. So over BMW making all these sub models and raping their brand loyal clients. I'm pretty sure this will be my last NEW BMW. Cant even get started on the G82 renders

I've seen tons of F80s go for $100k+ when you add all the options like full leather, accessories, CCBs and all the CF parts and in some cases an individual color.

This car makes sense if you want all that from the factory already, assuming you can get one for MSRP and you want one of the listed indie colors + the one off CS parts and interior.

You can look at it the other way and do all of that yourself for considerably less money. I guess it just depends on your thought process, really.

Yep, never buy first year M cars from BMW (not that other manufacturers doesn't play the same game). I feel bad for F90 M5 first edition owners now that it seems CP versions will come out fairly soon.

Because we all know the owners will use those extra 20hp.

For BMWs, I actually think the 1st year of a new gen is the best time to get the car. Not only does the car's looks stay relevant for a longer period of time and you get more time driving, but you are also not paying more for stuff you won't really need or use. And if you really do need more power/aero, a tune/mods will most likely be more cost effective and have more impact.

It's different for, say, a Porsche. Porsche actually makes substantial changes to their mid-cycle refreshes (991.1 vs. 991.2 for example). The engine is completely different, aero, interior bits, etc. So, waiting for the 2nd gen in the Porsche world makes sense.

With all of that said, Phatcat I think you have a point in that BMW is revealing the CP for the M5 so close to the launch of the base car that it may just be a non-issue to wait and buy the 'better' car. Mercedes did this with the C63 and the C63S, who would buy the non-S version. Sorry, this argument sounds counter-intuitive to my original argument.

I no longer purchase first model year cars.

Based on my experience, and what I've read in forums, there are typically minor issues with first year cars that are resolved in later model years (typically the second model year).

Of course, this does not matter to enthusiasts that want to be first on the road with a new body style, or those that are willing to overlook first year issues.

Why would anyone pay 97k for an M3 lol

Better to buy lightly used CP and mod it to kingdom. And buy a commuter with the extra 30k.

I am still trying to figure out why they would release this M3 CS without the OLED's, yet they will sell the M4 CS with OLED's. Makes no sense other than cost cutting measures to avoid some development costs.

Really? A good friend of mine at my gun club has a 2012 997.2S, a C7 Vette (sold his M3 for it), a 2015 Tahoe and a Hyundai Genesis as his daily. Perhaps I need to tell him that he shouldn't own the Hyundai.

Unfounded metrics. Add a few more points on a credit score and few extra hundred bucks per month of income and they will be. Stop feeling yourself. Bmws are ubiquitous. Lol
