Asking GOLFRR to give you an opinion on this is worthless. Why would another dealership care if Jimmy from Steve Thomas BMW thinks you should get a new bumper? GOLFRR is here to dispense information (pricing, specials, program changes, model information, etc), and maybe pick up some sales. He's not here for affirmation. This whole thread is affirmation seeking. The only entity that can help here is the dealer the OP dealt with. The dealer will decide, then the OP can either accept the decision, or hire a lawyer and sue. Maybe we'll see them on Judge Judy sometime soon.

FWIW, I feel for the OP's situation, as I stated earlier. My lack of attention to detail has definitely cost me money over the years.

UPDATE #1: So I received a message from the sales guy (like I previously posted very good and my second BMW from him which is why I assumed they would do something positive) after reviewing with his team that it will be fixed/addressed. They are going to look at it Wednesday morning when I drop it for the 1200 mile service. Sales said, The dealer will be taking care of it out of his "rim" (I assume that means a remediation like budget?). Will know more this week. But, a positive response none the less. My concern has been paint matching, so not sure the best method. If it requires an entirely new bumper as a repair can't be made, I may request something else to make up for it...and it won't be floor mats! I'm thinking more like BMW Perf Carbon lip is more apples to apples. But as someone posted earlier, the BMW CEO hand delivering a paint matched bumper with 2 virgins is also an option!

I wouldn't push it brother. Just have them replace the bumper if that is what you wanted. Good luck

It's black, they will be able to match it. Best of luck on a quick resolution.

Good update and let us know how they fix it. I would be really careful for getting that bumper painted again for such a minor fix that it doesnt match with the rest of the car. Like i said before do ask them if it can be fixed through PDR .

When you paint a car you will almost never just paint a part with a hard stop line hoping it will exactly match. BMW paints how may 100's of black cars a day. Unfortunately, there will be variations in the cars over time based on how the paint colors are derived and how small changes can occur in the paint. You usually have to blend paint out so one would not necessarily want "factory painted bla bla part" cause it may not match. Plus manual painting usually puts a thicker more robust paint layer down because the BMW brass is not saving pennies per job due to paint thickness.

Just so you know, 99.99999% of the time a good paint job will be undetectable by those other than those who have painted cars or know exactly what to look for. Yes I painted cars in the 90's so some things may have changed but most of the fundamentals have not

This

Point being, if done right, you won't be able to tell the difference between a fixed bumper and a new bumper.

I still think I would take a heat gun to it (says the guy who bondoed his step Dad's car in the 80s.... and never painted it)

Will the lip cover the damage? If so, that's not a bad idea.

UPDATE #2: Dropped her off for the 1200 mile service. Sales guy said they are definitely going to fix it. Determining what is the best method with their body shop team. Will have to go back to have it repaired another day. The one thing they have to determine is where to remove the xPel so that they can fix, then redo...

Honestly, so far they said, regardless what it takes and knowing there will eventually be bumps/bruises under my watch, no one should take a new $82k car home with an ounce of damage.

Good comments so far...

...more to come, I'll update again.

I'd push for a whole new bumper and reimburse the cost of the Xpel. I can just see them trying to cut out a portion of the Xpel, cutting the paint and bumper in the process, not removing the Xpel correctly and ripping off clear coat, trying to patch up the Xpel and you'll see the lines, paint won't match the rest of the bumper. So many things can go wrong.

Paintless dent repair. It doesn't matter. You don't want to mess with that. Just get a new bumper and be done with it.
