DCT in neutral while moving? How? Impossible?

From E90 - "If you pull back both paddles (kinda how you engage neutral in sequential Ferraris), it allows a DCT car to freely rev. Once you release, it changes right back into the gear you were in last, which is likely 1st. So all you have to do is pull both paddles and push on the gas pedal. Perfect for when you want to say hi to another M3."

Has anyone tried this? Not looking to rev but looking to diagnose sounds. Also how does one move to N while car is not running? ACC -> hold lever left to "N"?

I haven't heard about the double paddle pull back for neutral I'll try later and see. As for moving the car into neutral in ACC it's not possible. Once the car is turned off or the door is closed it goes back into park. The only way to get the gearbox into neutral when off is to manually engage the shift lever under the car and lock it in place with zip ties. I ran into this problem when I needed to tow.

Edit: the double pull for neutral does not work. Simply shift the car into neutral and back to rev.

I've not tried on my f82 but when I had a 335i with a dct you could put it into neutral while driving by moving the lever to neutral and then when you need to engage drive again it auto Rev matched and engaged the most appropriate gear. I would have thought s55 would be the same.

Can't help on the neutral with car off - on the e9x they had a park release procedure but removed that in the f8x.

This still works on the F80/82.

One of the few stupid things on the F80/82 in my opinion. Prob an oversight from BMW.

I've seen the ziptie method. While moving one can not put the car in N. The problem is when you want to move the car and your battery is dead or disconnected your screwed - ziptie.

I tried both paddles from D (at a stop) and the car shifted to 1.

[edit for below: A 2sec hold on the stick makes it work. Just a flick requires a little brake or nothing happens.]

To shift from D into N while moving you must apply just enough brake to trip the brake light switch, then shift to N (for revs or whatever). Shifting from N into D also requires touching the brake (to exit a roll-thru car wash, for example).

if you're rolling forward you can use the center stick to put it in neutral no problem without pressing the brakes. if you are not moving you need to hit the brake for neutral to engage.

That doesn't work as I have tried. Maybe a video showing this? I have the GT4 flash and it didn't work before or after the flash.

Absolutely correct. As long as the car is moving forward, you can switch it into neutral and back into gear by just flicking the gear lever into Neutral/ Drive.

Works at all speeds, works with stock, CS flash, GTS flash… It is standard DCT behaviour on the F8x platform.

Best way to test it… get the car to speed 60, 70 mph… and then flick (hold the lever for a moment) using gear lever into neutral and back into drive and back into neutral…. The DCT automatically picks up the proper gear…

This must be some euro thing as the posts G or UK above posts state. Mine will not come out of D while moving, applying brakes or not no matter what I do. It seems to be a safety thing so not to easily knock it out of gear?? Mine is a 3/15 build.

I've found that holding the shift knob in the neutral setting for a second or two while moving will engage neutral with no need to apply the breaks. A simple flick is not enough if you are moving, probably for safety

I have a USA 2020 M2 Competition and I can put the car in neutral while driving.

You hold the DCT stick to the left in N until the car engages. You have to hold the stick at N for 1-2 sec. Until it goes.

Then you can rev the engine and what not. Once ur done in neutral and still driving, hold the DCT stick back to Drive and it will engage the proper gear. All of this is done without touching the break.

Maybe I needed to word it better…

You need to hold the lever for a moment when flicking to the Neutral position; and the car will shift to neutral. Similar for back into Drive, hold it for a second (not just a flick !)

+1 on this answer!!! I was rolling slow and held the stick/selector left about 2sec and got N. Then I held right 2sec and it gave me D (2nd gear).
