Damn Parking Lot Dents!!
So I always take care to park carefully. Aware of the inevitable dings that come from others carelessly opening their doors too wide.
In my current lot I thought I had a great spot. Far from any other cars (see pics below.) But, alas the dents came anyway. Walked out to my car last night to see that someone must have backed into my drivers side door/rear panel. Dent is relatively minor, but I notice it. Question: Do I get it fixed at a private shop or at the BMW dealer? Any guesses on how much this will cost??

Looks like PDR should be able to fix that. Yelp it and ask for quotes.

That sucks man, not sure how anyone could be that inconsiderate.
I think you should be able to get that popped out by going to your local "ding" specialists. I don't see any chip on the paint, so that's a blessing. GL!

I avoid spots like those after someone backed up into my previous car. Took out the side view mirror too and didn't leave a note. People suck in general and suck at driving. They don't expect cars to be parked 90 degrees in back of them.

I hope there is a special place in hell for such people. Fortunately, it looks like PDR will be an option for you. Fingers crossed for you.

Thanks all for the comments. Its an annoying bit of damage for sure, but so it goes...
I have my appointment for Sep 4th. Hopefully low cost PDR is the fix... I really can't fathom how someone could have backed into me considering how far away I was parked.... |

feel your pain. i bought an pristine old car two weeks ago. 17 years kept in perfect shape, and in my first week of ownership it gets dented in my son's parking lot. i wanted him to go to work and start ranting like a crazy person until someone admitted to the deed.
anyway, i hate to be pessimistic but that's a tough job for PDR. you're right on the edge of two panels which means (a) it will be hard to get behind that section, (b) they've told me that it's harder to recreate an edge than to pop a dented surface back to straight, and (c) you have two messed up edges that need to be re-formed and lined up with each other. |

So if PDR can't do the job what do you think will need to be done? Complete removal of door and rear panel? Sounds expensive.... dammit.... |

well, i hope that it's still doable. definitely still keep your appointment and let the dent wizards tell you for sure. if they don't think they can do it, then your next step is the body shop, who'll want to repair/replace and repaint both doors. but hopefully you don't need to do that.

That's a double door fix, and not by PDR. PDR cant straighten the end of the doors properly, there is no access for it. Its either a lot of body work to make it right, or a cheap shop will get it close enough, and then bondo the heck out of it (no good, paint will shrink and crack later on in a few years), or get two new door skins and repaint both and swap door inners/panels/window, etc. (not cheap)
I hope Im wrong for you though...I just don't see that edge coming out perfectly clean. Unless you are ok with a little wonky edge that will be hard to see (might be your best bet to save a repaint). But if the fix involves a repaint, I would replace the doors. And definitely check for cameras in the area. Hopefully you have uninsured coverage/not at fault coverage...that's about a 2500-3000 dollar fix to replace |

Sorry to see. Amazing what some people will do. Keep us posted if PDR will work or not. If not, claim it on your insurance and have it fixed correctly.

It’s not a question of being a good or bad driver. It’s being too scummy to leave a note with contact information after you hit and dent someone’s parked car.

I guess I'm expecting too much for people to exercise more little more care. Where the OP's car is parked is where I would've parked as it looked ideal with ACRES of space to get into and out of the adjacent perpendicular spot. If you catch them redhanded they like to tell you "it's just a car". Good thing OP is calm and considers that minor.
