Suspension question about f80.

Hey guys,

Sorry for dumb questions. Its my understanding there are 2 suspensions for F80 My 2016.

normal dampers not electronic.

m adaptive dampers.

So the normal you can install coilovers and no light and the adaptive equipped car will throw a check light or just the light next to shifter stays on?

How do you know which ones you have?

If you have that suspension button next to shifter then it has m adaptive. If no button then normal?

Next part of my quesiton is.

How long do the m adaptive struts typically last? Are people needing to switch them out after a few years or less if lowered with HAS coilover?

Any clarity would be greatly appreciate.

Yes, if you have adaptive you will also have the button next to the shifter.

Adaptive dampers typically last at least as long as normal dampers, if not longer.

Yupp, then only a few years until they start to weep fluid then. These shocks are pricey. What do people do?

If you switch to coilovers or non adaptive shocks. you get that light. What's the work around that?

The sealing on adaptive dampers is typically much better than normal dampers. They are much more expensive to make AND replace, and warranty costs add up quickly. IMO, cost of replacement shouldn't be a reason to avoid getting them on a car. Magneride dampers, like what's on Corvettes, on the other hand, have big problems with leaks and weeping because the fluid itself is abrasive. But most solenoid valve based dampers do not.

Good to know thanks. I wonder if dealer will replace them out under warranty?

How many miles are the Adaptive Dampers good for on these cars? I run ACS springs on mine and I'm afraid I may be prematurely wearing them out due to the lowered ride height.
