No fuel system issues from octane boosters, but most brands use mmt which turns your plugs orange and eventually causes them a premature death. So just plan on swapping plugs more often if you regularly use octane boosters with mmt.

I've always wondered what really worked as far as additives, and this thread got me to do a little digging...
I use(d) Liqui Moly Jectron because that's what the dealer and also a local Bimmer shop uses to "keep the top end clean". So I googled the ingredients...and found a good older discussion here: https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forum..._Liqui_Moly_20 Now I learned to just google the MSDS and see the real info... Seems my "highly recommended" Liqui Moly Jectron is really 99% High Aromatic Hydrocarbon and 1% Naphtha. http://www.worldpac.com/tagged/LM2007.pdf Lucas Octane Booster contains 30-60% Naphtha and 1-5% MMT (also called MCMT or TMM in documents). https://lucasoil.com/pdf/SDS_Octane-Booster.pdf Not bad...seems to turn spark plugs colors, but no problems aside from keeping to recommended plug change intervals.. Good booster. Lucas Fuel Treatment contains only 60-100% Petroleum Distillates (hydrotreated heavy parrafinic). https://lucasoil.com/pdf/SDS_Lucas-Fuel-Treatment.pdf (Here we go...the cleaner I wanted) Lucas Deep Clean Fuel System Cleaner contains 30-60% Solvent Naphtha and 10-30% PolyEther Amine (PEA, or the trade name "Techron". [our buddy above asked...] Amsoil Octane Boost is the usual mix with only 0.5% MMT (sorry, correction, it's 2-4% MMT). https://www.amsoil.com/msds/aob_cob.pdf Dig the threads, here and elsewhere. Post and we all benefit. I just learned something myself thanks to OP! +1! Since I have access to 93 octane fuel I'll pick the Lucas Deep Clean. If I could only get 91 then I'd pick the Lucas Booster. Let's see if the deep cleaner improves my heavy foot MPG... Will report back. Peace and safe travels my friends, -TopJimmy

According the MSDS Amoils only contains .07-.7% of Naptha with .01-.04% of MMT

I put some Torco in my honda pit bike a couple times and it ran much smoother but my spark plug was in fact caked in orange soon after that. I would never put that in my car after seeing the plug.

I get about 18.2 MPG on CA 91 gas. Kind of disappointing to be honest as I rarely get on it but I didn't get this car for MPG.. Maybe I'll try this octane booster but I too am a little worried about any potential harm or damage this may cause?
Besides gas mileage savings anyone notice a difference in the way the car runs after putting the octane booster? |

One thing I am curious about is if this would actually add more HP. If I had the time I would do a dyno pull without the octane booster and another with it. See how much HP does it really change.

FWIW - I just finished my first tank with the Lucas Octane Booster. It's hard to do perfect like-for-like comparison but it seems I got slightly better gas mileage than normal when using the Lucas Octane Booster. Guessing about 0.5 to 1.0 mpg better. Engine power seemed to be slightly improved as well but I have no mathematical way to justify my judgment.
NOTE: I live in VA where we have good 93 octane gas. |

Here's the Techron:
https://cglapps.chevron.com/sdspds/S...;docFormat=PDF Petroleum Distillate 60-70% Secret Stuff #1 (PEA per others' research) 25-45% Secret Stuff #2 (?) 1-5% Naphtha <2.5% Alkyl Dithiothiadiazole <1% In the Advance Auto today I saw a 32oz Techron bottle for $17, and dosage is 1oz per gal (~$8 per tank). The Lucas Deep Clean was 16oz for $9, and dosage is 8oz per 15gal or basically 0.5oz per gal (~$4.5 per tank). I'll figure that what's really in the bottles are the LOWEST % of the important stuff (PEA, MMT, Naphtha, etc.) and the Highest % of fillers (Distillate, Hydrocarbon or Kerosene). Since the Chevron is minimum 25% (supposed PEA) and the Lucas is minimum 10% it seems the Chevron is the better deal...BUT Chevron's Techron webpage says "To keep the entire fuel system clean, use Techron Concentrate Plus, Complete Fuel System Cleaner, every 3,000 miles (4,800 km) or at scheduled oil change intervals, not to exceed twice per oil change." (Aka NOT FOR EVERY-TANK USE). Maybe that 1-5% Secret #2 is MMT and they don't want to cook plugs with regular use? https://www.chevronlubricants.com/en...m-cleaner.html

Well after a tank of ACN91 octane I Put the lucas octane booster and the car fell immediately better. Very smooth and powerful. I guess my only complaint would be that the spark plugs turn orange due to the mmt but maybe I’ll just use these bottles every other fill up. I bought a 12 pack in Amazon for $73!

Just put in 15oz of Lucas Octane Booster and a fresh tank of 91. Reset MPG and will report back.

Haha I don't know about MPG as I'm just romping on the pedal. Feels that good.
Also, who cares about MPG with this beast of a car? HAHA If my tank is empty, I'll fill it up! Regardless, Yes, I know MPG is somewhat important to some people, but if I really cared, I'd get a Prius or Tesla. This care is meant to be driven, hard, and the octane booster with ACN91 makes it feel so much better. Definitely gonna use it when I go to the track next month! weee! |

Cycle thru your gauge cluster using BC until you land on your mpg on the stalk then just press and hold.
