Test drive used m3/m4

Hey all, just want to know what you guys did when you went to see and test drive a use m4 or m4? What did you look for and what did you use to get yourself a better deal?

Make sure the car drives straight and turn off the radio and make sure there aren't any strange sounds (mechanically wise).

You should really look at comparable cars in your area to understand how much room you have. If the car is mechanically sound, which it likely is if you're buying from a BMW dealer, then there really isn't anything there you're going to be able to argue over. Mostly you'll need to look at the overall condition of the car and go off of the imperfections. If there are a lot and you can tell it was a lease return which wasn't well maintained then bring up what it's going to cost you to repair. As an example, look at rims for scrapes or dings. For whatever reason they always seem to be an issue when I look BMW's, and getting those fixed can cost anywhere from $300-$1,000 depending on type and severity. If you're buying from a random used car lot then all bets are off. If that is the case then find a good independent BMW mechanic, and tell the dealer you'd like to take the car there for an inspection. If you're serious about the car, pay for it. If you're not willing to pay for it, then you probably shouldn't buy the car. Also, I tend to stay away from any deal that is "too good to be true" unless it's 3rd party and they obviously need to get out from under it.

I would ask the dealership to have the car for a couple of hours then look for a local BMW shop to do a pre-purchase inspection. Of course it will cost some money so you have to make a choice on picking the one to test out.

Make sure you check under the front bumper! Some people don't realize how low the front bumper is and will scrape on parking blocks/curbs. Obviously I made that mistake 😓
