Fast road pads / occasionally track use advice
So I know the age old thing is you can't have a decent quiet road pad and a decent track pad but I'm looking for something that is better than oem for fast road driving. And capable on track for a novice.
My main track toy is a clio 182, but I'm contemplating trying the m4 out I've got new discs, rbf600 fluid and goodridge ss lines coming. Track in question is Snetterton UK which has 2 big straights to help keep things cool. I'll be on normal road tyres and not driving at the limit. Effectively a taster session and if all is good I'll then buy race pads and swap on the day. I believe this leads me to the following selection 1. Ferodo Ds2500 2. Porterfield r4s's 3. Endless mx72 4. Anything else I've missed? Which is the best option for my needs? Any help greatly appreciated Lee

I'm using Endless MX72 for this. I do think I overheat them a bit at the track and end up with vibration and squeeling after, but by re-bedding them it seems to smooth them out.
But they're still a compromise. A bit less smooth and consistent than OEM on the street once you've tracked them, and a bit better than OEM on the track. After 3 track days I see streaks on the rotor and the edges of the front pads show a bit of crumbling, but they still work ok. A couple more track days might finish them off. I've heard Endless MX20 might be better. More of a track pad but apparently not too noisey and uncomfortable on the street. Depends how much daily use your car sees, if it's not a commuter you might be fine just running these track pads. |

Cheers. The mx72 I had heard good things about. My issue for them is I can get a full front and rear set f ds2500 pr r4s for the price of just the fronts on the mx72
But then if they are loads better then maybe I should bite the bullet. That's my fear I fit these lovely new disc and then go ruin them in a few weeks lol |

Tbh, DS1.11 have been the best for this use IMO.
DS2500 are awesome but you'll notice their weakness on track. The 1.11s are really decent for both. |

This also depends on the track layout and how hard it is on your brakes. Ferodo DS2500s have been fine for me across multiple cars, but I often will do cool down laps mid session so I'm not going all out for the full time.
